Actually in Australia the States have major control over activity and to quote two examples, Queensland and NSW who have female premiers have done heaps better that Victoria who has a male so I think you should remove Australia off your list because NZ having done so well, NSW and Queensland are not very far behind.

I have some other evidence for this: In my house my wife (a woman) is the boss  and we have had no Covid-19 here.

It is reported that the majority of recent infections in Europe (and 80% in the UK) are due to a new variant originally found in Spanish farm workers and spread throughout Europe by holidaymakers.

The concern is that the seemingly fast rate of mutations (within humans or other hosts), a characteristic of many viruses, could lead to a variant with more lethal outcomes and/or a problem with finding an effective vaccine. There is the saying 'It's not over until it's over' and we need to bear that in mind.

In the US it is similar. The States, not the federal government have full control. Estrogen content of the government leadership has no correlation with pathogenicity however.

I think there is some evidence to suggest that female politicians do tend to lead with their heads, rather than other parts of the anatomy. In my experience female politicians are not overly concerning themselves with popularity and re-election, but tend to take a more rational approach. Evidence (as I know it's often a requirement in discussions here) - see above.

I do consider one of the best Prime Ministers in the UK to have been Margaret Thatcher. She certainly led the Falklands war with her head against some South American dictator who was guided by a different part of his body. I’m sure she did so without great fear of future election prospects. Gender certainly is irrelevant to good leadership. But I just cannot correlate gender of political leadership with successful covid response. For example, Florida, with no lockdowns in place, has one of the best records with male Governor DeSantos while Michigan with female Governor Gretchen Whitmer has one of the worst records with severe lockdowns in place.

All I need is one “contradictory “observation” to shed doubt on the prevailing theory in this thread.

Margaret Thatcher was always out for power - in the Falklands her government made the astonishing mistake of removing the one military vessel there, even though they knew Argentina wanted the Falklands. This was to save a relatively minuscule amount of money. The Argentinian junta saw that as a sign of no interest and took the opportunity. It cost a huge amount in money and, more importantly, in human injuries and lives, to take the islands back. She had to - she knew to be humiliated by Argentina would have finished her. She won the next election by a landslide, attributed to 'The Falklands Effect'.

P.S. She also used the police to beat up the working classes in the miners' strike - I know what went on as I was a very close friend of one of the police there.

Maybe too political but, hey, she's dead now.

Maybe I misread your post but Michigan under "Gretchen Whitmer" has 197,406 cases with 7,699 deaths on the other hand
Florida under "Ron Desantis" has had 802,547 cases with 16,769 deaths.... over 4 times as many cases and twice the deaths ....
I fail to see how you come to the conclusion that Florida has managed the Covid response better than Michigan.... that is if I read you correctly ....

Well, you have a the figures I guess. I guess you’re right. Estrogen content of Governor is inversely proportional to covid cases. You got me on that one. But you know what? I still think it is a dumb theory and I take USA numbers with a grain of salt.
