It's not a surprise that China is testing their vaccine on their people. How they tested it could be interesting (insert the word questionable if you like).
The other day there was an interview on TV from the UK. A young guy was talking about how he and others that volunteered to take a vaccine and then be exposed to the virus. Being young they think they might not be too badly infected. It's my understanding that type of testing is un-ethical and not allowed. Some of the big Pharma companies out there are pretty shifty.
I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a vaccine. I'll just were a mask etc. etc.

    I don't know.
The UK is considering a challenge trial. Where people are vaccinated and then intentionally exposed to the virus. It is much faster than the double blind trial that is currently being used. Sadly society has not used challenge trials for COVID-19.

The ethical challenge is that it is possible that some people will become infected and die.

On the other hand getting through testing and deploying the vaccine to the masses may avoid many deaths.

In the UK challenge trails are in the planning stages and have not yet taken place:

Tested on the young - given to the old.

    Something to worry about.

The whole operation to get people vaccinated will be a huge logistics problem, especially in developing nations.
What I am talking about is the need to store the vaccine at very low temperatures during transport, somewhere around minus 100 degrees celsius (-150F).
Quite likely, special containers with appropriate temperature control are in development for use in aircraft, so that means there's a way to get the vaccine to where there is an airport. The problem starts after that. Having 500,000 doses at an airport in a frozen container is one thing, getting it safely to locations where people can be vaccinated in much smaller quantities is quite another.
We'll see how that will work out. My best guess is there will be very few locations in Negros Oriental where people can get vaccinated.

Is there anything other than liquid nitrogen or preferably a dry vaccine?

In the way many industries switched to making ventilators I can see the brewing industry doing the same for liquid nitrogen vessels. Get some in now!

My understanding is that only one of the two vaccines about to complete trials needs to be kept that cold.

Pfizer’s vaccine candidate requires a storage temperature of minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a new type of vaccine and Pfizer wanted to ensure it made it through the trials. The speculation is that it can handle higher temperatures but needs further regulatory testing to confirm. Meanwhile Pfizer is going to go forward with the lower temperatures.

Moderna’s vaccine requires a storage temperature of minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit which is a much more reasonable temperature.

Both are making containers that will last 10 days with only one opening per day.

I think the reality is that we here in Dumaguete are not going to see a vaccine until much later than everyone else. This is because of the success in curtailing the spread here. Only recently did the hospital receive the testing equipment and that was only because a private company donated it. The more successful a community is at minimizing COVID the less resources it gets from the Federal government.

The US will consume all of the vaccine it creates next year.
