The only advantage a nation like america has is enough money to test more people.
Does china really only have 86,000 cases with America on 11 million?
Do you think they covid test the poor populations that die of fever or high blood ?
There sure is a lot of people in america dying from high blood due to the obesity epidemic, and just because they tested positive for covid it doesnt mean they died because of covid surely? They might also have had the flu?

If you are over 60, live on the island of Negros and have a comorbidity and get Covid-19 you are pretty much screwed. For those unfamiliar with the medical term "screwed" in plain English this means "you are hosed".

    COVID in Guihulngan overwhelms facilities

    Sun, Nov 15, 2020 Metropost

Guihulngan City is seeking clearance from the Negros Oriental State University and the Department of Education to utilize their classrooms as isolation rooms for the over-1,000 persons who have been identified as contacts of COVID-positive individuals.

Romualdo Señeris, head of the contact tracing team of Negros Oriental, said that contact tracers are looking at third generation contacts of the original COVID-positive patients as the number of local transmissions continue to rise.

The tally of COVID-positive individuals for Guihulngan as of Friday was 62, with 16 new cases reported on that day alone.

The number of COVID-positive individuals went down by one for Guihulngan as of Saturday, but the LGU still has the highest number of COVID- positive cases among all the 25 local government units in Negros Oriental.

In the absence of the needed classrooms, most of those identified contacts have been advised to go on home quarantine.

Señeris said they have three recommendations for Guihulngan to help quell the spread of local transmissions there:

The first is to ask for additional rooms from the DepEd and NORSU to be used as quarantine facilities for 21 days per individual.

The second recommendation is to implement “granular lockdowns” in specific areas where COVID cases are high.

The third recommendation is for the LGU to boldly implement the limitation of movement in areas where spikes in COVID cases are happening.

Dr. Liland Estacion, incident commander of the Provincial Inter Agency Task Force, avoided using the word “alarming” to describe the Guihulngan cases, apart from confirming that there is a surge in cases there.

She said they were considering areas where community transmission could be taking place, although they have been told by contact tracers that they are still able to trace the source of the virus.

A community transmission means a spread of contamination from unknown sources, giving health authorities a more difficult time in addressing the situation.

Estacion explained that the spike in the results of COVID positive cases there is partly because of the delay in the release of test results from Cebu. “Sometimes, no test result is announced for two or three days and they are just lumped together on the fourth day,” Dr. Estacion said.

She also said that based on the results of contact tracing, the COVID cases are mostly being transmitted among people working in the same office, or those living in the same household under one roof.

“If you eat your lunch in your office, keep distance; don’t crowd around a table. Use alcohol or wash hands often. Go out only for essential needs,” she advised.

But she expressed confidence that once the microbiological laboratory will be up and running, we will be able to control the speed and releasing of test results.

The rates for the COVID 19 swab tests at the soon-to-open Provincial Microbiological Laboratory have been fixed by the Provincial Board at P2,700 per test, provided the person has been endorsed by their respective local government unit.

Vice Gov. Mark Macias told reporters last week they arrived at such amount as determined to be the break-even point.

For inidigents, however, the Province and the LGUs have agreed to divide the cost.

Vice Governor Macias also said there is a law in the Provincial Board, introduced by Board Member Peter Renacia, which has been passed on second reading, requiring Returning Overseas Filipinos to undergo quarantine and an RT PCR swab upon arrival.

Should the swab test come out negative, they will be allowed to go home but will be required to serve out the 14-day quarantine.

Macias explained that this is needed because there is a 33 percent margin of error for negative results.

He said it is the best compromise between convenience for the returning residents, and ensuring the safety of the people in Negros Oriental.

For those planning to leave for overseas jobs, the rate for an RT PCR test has been pegged at P3,000.
