After some trial and error and self diagnosis (and after waiting 37 years my mother just told me today "oh yeah, your body violently rejected milk as an infant") it turns out I am lactose intolerant now...or always have been? I never remember having an issue with it as a teenager or adult until recently. Went to 5 pharmacies in Dumaguete with no luck in finding lactase enzyme. I see it is available on Lazada (sold under the Lactaid brand) but would like to find it locally if possible. Anyone have any ideas?
Reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance I am wondering that you did not notice symptoms, or perhaps the degree of symptoms is very low. Is there a possibility of reducing dairy products and perhaps finding which, if any, you are intolerant to?
I had cut most dairy out of my diet due to it being very calorically dense for almost 2 years. Now that I have more freedom with my calories I had started to reintroduce them, with disastrous results. I have every symptom of lactose intolerance. No dairy, no symptoms after 24-48 hours. Eat dairy, they return after about an hour after eating...every single time. It sucks and I would like for it to be something else but I don't think it is. I've put myself through a lot of suffering to come to this diagnosis.
Sorry to hear that. Obviously you seek a local source - but may be aware that shopee.ph (and I guess others) sell lactase online.
have you tried Yakult? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakult also, i make a unsweetened lacto drink and have extra and can give u a taste. i'll be passing Joy Bamboo Cafe 8amish tomorrow and i can leave it with them.
Um, er, I didn’t attend lectures on Fridays about this as I wished to p*ss off back to Kernow/see the Clash/whip off to Milan with some Upper Class floozie for lunch and some horizontal action, but I managed to pass the exam. There are roughly four types of lactose intolerance. I might be able to name them, but I’m tired. Basically, and am sure you have done this, eradication and incremental reintroduction does the trick, with plateauing and regression if you get the runny poos. In terms of meds/supplements it would be a reasonable idea to have stuff ruled out (um, any Latin genes lurking about?), have a bariatric meal, have things prodded into you like a full anoscopy/sigmoid colon exam and take things from there. With bottoms and diets you shouldn’t mess about. Could be something potentially embarrassing happening when cutting a rug after 10pm at Why Not. Constriction response. Need I say more?
There are some Native Alaskan and some Native American genes. Family history of lactose intolerance. (I think the vast majority of the adult population is intolerant to some degree.) This is the current plan. Only eating whole foods that I have personally prepared for the next 10-21 days to make sure no dairy sneaks in there. I will then start to slowly reintroduce dairy to find what items I can deal with and hopefully build up a bit of tolerance.
Good luck. I know from watching a former colleague that it's not easy cutting out hidden dairy products.
