Apart from the main supermarkets, is there anywhere in Dumaguete that sells a good range of spices. There are certain spices that I can't find anywhere. I know I can probably buy them online but I'm hoping that won't be necessary.

Specifically I'm looking to buy any of the following: cardamoms, black onion seeds, mustard seeds, garam masala, coriander seeds and fenugreek.

    Many thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Yan Yan? Is it a shop?

I could find bags of specialty spices at Yan Yan, as mentioned in the other posts.

You can find a lot of good stuff in Yan Yan you can't find in other places in Dumaguete, special if you like to bake, good butter Danish and French, species and seeds, a huge selection of flavors, among a lot of other stuff, for sure a visit worth

Another two forum friends after my own little heart. Mark, I salute you, an acolyte of the proper curry, and Jack, as ever the helpful resource. Target sighted: Yan Yan.

    Thank you sir.

I actually went to Yan Yan this morning. It was one in, one out, and there were a lot of people waiting outside. Patience is not one of my strong points, so I decided to return another day.

Once I visit I'll report back here with my findings. I'm hoping the store isn't entirely about baking, as that's how it appears from the outside.

Well I finally visited Yan Yan as suggested here to buy the spices I was looking for but, alas, NONE of the spices I specifically mentioned in my original post were available there.

In fact, I saw no spices whatsoever for sale that I couldn't buy in the supermarkets here. The prices are certainly cheaper than the supermarket if one is prepared to buy in bigger quantities.

My opinion of Yan Yan is that it's great for baking, but rubbish for cooking almost anything else.

    So, online it is.........
