Hi all. I am new to this forum. I am looking for a place that sells corn tortillas or maseca to make corn tortillas from scratch here in Dumaguete. I have looked in different grocery stores but could not find it. Thank you.
I found some ground corn there, but it didn't have the lime in it that the maseca has in it. I could make cornbread, but not tortillas. After a visit back to the US, I brought a few bags of masa harena and kept them in the freezer so I could make enchildas. I also brought a tortilla press.
Thanks for the response. I figured I may have to bring some from the States. This is helpful information. Thank you.
By chance did you buy your tortilla press here in the Philippines? I've been looking for a solid one but either insanely expensive ($150 for something sold in the US for $20-30) or *cast aluminum( whatever that is that breaks in weeks if not sooner. If so wondering where you bought / brand if any. Thanks
I bought everything here in the US on one of my visits. I think I paid around $12 for a heavy tortilla press, and I put that and 3 bags of masa in a check-in suitcase. Stored the masa in my freezer for about 2 years, and it lasted, until I returned home permanently in 2015.
