Recommend Motorcycle Tire and Place To Buy

Please recommend a brand and model of good quality motorcycle tires and a place to purchase them here in Dumaguete.

That really depends a lot on what kind of tire you’re looking for, and for what bike. In general, stick to well known brands and don’t buy the cheapest tire available.

I use IRC (front) and Shinko (rear) offroad tires on my 250 Honda, the irc is from the Honda dealer (order 3 months in advance...), Shinko is usually available on Lazada.

Michelin tires I think are locally available in scooter sizes , Dunlop probably as well. Unless you have a lot of time to shop around the various small roadside dealers (or someone else here can suggest a good tire dealer), Lazada is your best bet I think.

There is one quite big motorcycle parts dealer in town along the natl hwy not far from UnionBank (but other side of the road) that might be worth checking out. Also Raddis (various shops around town), maybe.

I think the big motorcycle parts dealer you are referring to is Raddi. They are on the West side of the national highway across from Hotel Essencia. They also have smaller locations around town.

In the old days, I remember Michelin being a good brand. In terms of sticky traction vs wear, I am looking for something with better traction and shorter life.

 

Pirelli tires seem to be locally available. I've had extremely good luck with them over the years, both street only and on/off road. I've run dozens of tires, Michelin, Continentals and Pirelli, all good tires but Pirelli tires are locally available and easily comparable with the best street tires I've experienced, especially in the rain.

 

I saw a few at Raddi. Some of the smaller motorcycle shops had a lot more tires to choose from than Raddi.

 

Yes, I recently got the tires for my girlfriend's Mio at Raddi Valencia. I've seen them for other bikes at the Main Raddi downtown. Sizing availability seems to be somewhat random but it seems there is a distributor in Manila as they appear locally with some regularity. There is also a guy on Facebook called "Corner Tires". He's here in Dumaguete and has good size availability but charged me a 1,000p premium per time over what he charges Filipino customers. So be careful if you deal with him.

 

In reading the Michelin tire selection guide, generally speaking trail type on-road/off-road tries should be purchased for driving in this area. This is because the streets are not swept regularly. Dirt and sand gathers here and there. The road tires do not have circumferential grooves to reduce side slipping of the front tire in loose dirt or sand.
