McDonalds- softserv vanilla, strawberry and chocolate 12 oz shakes are available on the GRAB app for Dumaguete and suburbs. If they arrive soft pop them in the freezer. To double the portion, refill the cup after dumping into the blender with 12 oz. of Fresh Milk and blend.

I've been after the local management for 14 years to bring shakes to the Philippines.

Also on the Grab app is the place for instructions such as extra pickles and extra onions on your hamburger.

Grab and FoodPanda are going head to head but missing items and debit card payments are also collected in cash by the riders by unsuspecting customers have led us to use Grab more and more.

    Current favorites are:

    Mooone:
    Ribeye and or Tenderloin steaks.
    Thin-sliced onion rings.
    Potato soup.

    Lantau
    Lomi soup, best local flavor.
    Watermelon shakes.

    Flamin Grill:
    Crunchy French fried onion rings.

    Chia:
    Omelet
    Buritto

From discussions with restaurant owners, my understanding is that Panda and probably Grab take 20 or 30% out of the restaurants take. Restaurants can't survive long with that. We patronize places that have their own couriers, and tip them well. We try to do take out too...

For places that don't have their own delivery staff or advertising budget this might be a fair tradeoff for the free advertising and potential new customers these services can bring. Also, without these delivery services the sales that are made may very well have never been made in the first place. I would rather lose 20-30% of the P50 profit than make nothing at all.

I think the real problem with these delivery services is how they treat their "drivers". I believe they are taking advantage of desperate people.

    I don't know.
    Welcome to the gig economy!

Essentially it is a way to get around minimum wage and employment regulations. The drivers are independent contractors. The drivers do not get paid during the time they sit around waiting for an order. They tend to not realize the full cost of their vehicle expenses and the down time so they work for less than they should. The situation is worse in the developed countries.

If they do not get an order then it sucks to be them.

On the other hand should government dictate the minimum standards for wage and employment regulations or should it be left to the free market? Government intervention often leads to pricing the activity out of the market leaving even fewer jobs to go around.

In the US, Grab and Lyft have been screwing their "independent contractors" (and the taxi industry) for over a decade. In a balanced, equitable, fair, moral economy, rules would not be needed, but, of course, that exists NOWHERE on earth, certainly not the PH or the US.
Funny story (sickening), New York city encouraged cab drivers to take out mortgages on their medallions, which the BANKS thrived on with outrageous rates, making them worth a million 6 yrs ago, then grab and Lyft made the medallions lose half their value by this year, throwing hundreds (thousands?) of cab drivers into bankruptcy.

We have a small resto and were approached by Food Panda. Turns out that they will advertise the food on their web site, but will charge the same as the menu in the store. THEN they take like 27% of the total for the "service" of advertising and delivering, leaving the restaurant getting only 73% of the charge. Lowered to 20% if you sign an exclusive listing with them.
    Simply not worth it.

If you can give a 27% premium to your favorite restaurant simply by hopping on the cycle and going to pick it up, you are GREATLY helping small businesses in Dumaguete and well worth the effort. Git off ur b*t and do TAKE OUT OR DELIVERY. Don't give away over 1/4 or the restaurant's income.

I've never operated a restaurant but I have heard the markup is generally only around 15% on most menu items. Of course you will see more of a markup at upscale establishments but that generally isn't what you see on these food delivery apps.

I think the best approach for small businesses is too get on Google maps, provide a working contact number (that never changes and is always answered) and hire their own delivery staff.
