Unsure of the numbers/source, but we are a problem.

Among the four provinces of Central Visayas, Negros Oriental and Bohol are experiencing an increase in cases. Based on the regional case bulletin for Sunday, May 30, Bohol had 135 new cases while Negros Oriental had 119.

Both provinces have active cases exceeding 1,000. Negros Oriental has 1,573 active cases while Bohol has 1,065 active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities.

BREAKING: Negros Oriental will remain under the most relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) from June 1 to 30, 2021, President Rodrigo Duterte announced tonight.

This, despite the surge of #COVID19 infections in the province and calls from doctors to declare an ECQ here.

As of today, May 31, 2021, Negros Oriental has 1,228 active cases, with Dumaguete City having the most number of active infections at 271, Provincial Health Office data showed.

Both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines showed effectiveness against symptomatic disease from B.1.617.2, the so-called Indian variant, British researchers found.

Two doses of Pfizer's vaccine showed 87.9% efficacy (95% CI 78.2%-93.2%) against the variant, while two doses of
AstraZeneca's showed 59.8% efficacy (95% CI 28.9%-77.3%), reported Jamie Lopez Bernal, PhD, of Public Health England in London, and colleagues in a preprint manuscript online.

Vaccine effectiveness after one dose against B.1.617.2 was similarly low for both vaccines, at 33%.

My friend tested positive and was later moved to isolation. His family will be tested. He was symptomatic and stayed in one room in the house. The delays indicate we were swamped. He shares a CR in isolation.

    I don't know.
First, I realize that I probably associate with more young Filipinos and Filipinas than the rest of you. What I do requires that I spend my days associating with young Filipinos and Filipinas.

The virus is coming at me from three separate directions of individuals who are reporting symptoms. Two of which have close contacts that have tested positive.

I realize that my experience is a single data point and may be a bit circumstantial. We tend to spend our lives in social bubbles. Old foreigners hang out with other old foreigners, etc.

Hopefully the ones who are feeling symptoms or have close contacts make an effort to isolate themselves. The people I deal with have. I do not blame young people for not going to get tested. Covid does not effect them much. The results take a long time to come back while they are forced to sit in an isolation center. Why would they bother? Most of the people in the Philippines are young. The average age is 25.

Furthermore, the contact tracing and testing ability has reached its capacity. Once it reaches its capacity it will not show an increase in cases even if there is an increase in cases in the population. Because of this I do not believe that the numbers we see being reported are an accurate indication of the spread.

It appears to me that covid is greatly surging in the younger population. As I said I am only one point of view.

My friend is older. I moved to Valencia to get away from what I considered to be the coming epicenter, and it's cooler. It's easier to control contacts up here. I walked through neighborhoods in Duma, but kept a certain distance. Many of the very mild symptoms would be easy to ignore, a cough 3-4 times a day, a mild queasy feeling, harder to ignore loss of taste/smell, but loss of smell happens often enough anyway. It could easily surge in younger folk and only a few would have symptoms. I have mild queasiness at times, sneeze and cough at times, but my sense of taste and smell are intact. My wife gets input from all of her friends. If and when the Indian variant gets here, younger folk will get sicker if it follows the same pattern.

All this talk about mass testing, etc......makes me curious about the methods used in the PCR test analysis. For example; what is the Cycle Threshold Value cut off point? Dr. Fauci recommends a CT value of 35. Can't find any latest news about what the CDC or the WHO recommends, but at one time it was a value higher that 35. I would think that would lead to more false positives, correct? Perhaps the forum resident virologist can comment.

(Not to take away from your opinion but as an outsider living in UK, I thought most foreigners hang out with younger women or are married to younger women!)
Younger people it would appear, are now falling ill to these faster spreading variants but is it not also true that they do not stick to the social distancing rules as is the case in the western world, as they believe that it won't affect them as badly as the older groups.
Therefore it makes sense for older people to avoid close contact with other members of their household who are exposed to outside close contact during the day
