Sinovac I've watched, but not Sinopharm, which the article is about. Sinovac recently had a breakout where ~ 360 hospital staff became infected, with 12 or more of them going severe. It's the Delta variant, which is more transmissible, and your chances of being hospitalized go up 2.75 times. Take note for when that gets here, if it does.

"JAKARTA — More than 350 doctors and medical workers have caught COVID–19 in Indonesia despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and dozens have been hospitalized, officials said, as concerns grow about the efficacy of some vaccines against more infectious variants.

Most of the workers were asymptomatic and self-isolating at home, said Badai Ismoyo, head of the health office in the district of Kudus in central Java, but dozens were in the hospital with high fevers and declining oxygen saturation levels.

Kudus, which has about 5,000 healthcare workers, is battling an outbreak believed to be driven by the more transmissible Delta variant which has pushed up its bed occupancy rates above 90%."

It bothers me, some of these stories. The article doesn't give any hard data to back up their opinion.
Yesterday there was an article on a CNN website basically saying "The Sky is Falling" They describe the horrible situation where health care workers in Indonesia have been infected with Covid even after vaccination with Sinovac. What they didn't mention in the story was that about 150K health care workers had been vaccinated. It seems 6 health care workers died, one of them had only 1 jab. The story did mention they have the Delta variant which I believe is more serious.

A story in Bloomberg (about a month ago) said Sinovac was 55% effective at preventing covid and 97% effective in preventing serious cases requiring hospitalization.
I thought that was pretty good.(?). If there are only "dozens" of health care workers in hospital and 6 dead out of 150K people that sounds pretty impressive to me. Especially considering they have the Delta variant (they are a little vague on that detail). Here's the CNN link: https://edition.cnn.com/2021/06/18/asia/vaccinated-indonesian-doctors-covid-19-intl-hnk/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_content=2021-06-19T07:00:07&utm_source=fbCNNi&utm_term=link&fbclid=IwAR2fXIE4f8QSyqn7Ay7p0NTTga9R3L6ANJf8vKfRclwGHEW1hG4nTrOAOGw

For my self I will take my second jab of Sinovac sometime next week and wait until something better becomes available. Hopefully more will be known about mixing different vaccines soon.

There is so much garbage reporting going on right now it's hard to know who or what to believe.

I agree with your facts and judgment. Indonesia has a very large population ~270 million, the USA is ~330 million pop. I would get vaxxed for the 97% odds of not going to the hospital. The hospitals may be overwhelmed, lack staff, and run out of medicine, ventilators, etc. They may have to practice triage.
The odds of getting it here may be low, but if you do happen to get it, you don't want to be hospitalized.

TOTALLY AGREE. This is why I switched off from the plethora of reports and charts a while ago. It is like reading reports of individual battles in WW2 and seeing it sway to and fro.

It is what it is - and the main thing is to be aware what is around (the Delta variant, for example, is more transmissible, affects the young more and so needs a much higher herd immunity than the 66% previously stated) and what each individual can do about it.

All current vaccines seem to be reducing serious illness and that is a very important factor to consider.

Only read a few good sources. But I like to keep track of the trend here. The sources I read summarize, and I only read what's pertinent and interesting. The Euros in one group have a different view and approach to it, and trolls are kept out. We were discussing the JJ manufacturing problems yesterday. Two scientists I follow - one gets very in depth and I'm not able to go in that depth, but they both summarize and point out the results of new studies. Three friends have long covid, and it looks like my Civil War buddy has brain fog. But most of it doesn't conflict, just new points. My Asian friends are just following their own countries vaxxing. but they get info. Here, there's not much info and the sources conflict. I don't take a blase attitude toward it, though it gets tiring for a day, then the interest comes back.

IMHO: Getting the chinese vaccine shot is safer than not getting it.

If you do get covid, the shot will reduce the covid severity.
If you get the shot, there is no known reason you can't get a different shot later plus you are somewhat well protected in the interim. My doc in the states confirmed this to the best of her knowledge.

So far, bad results from shots are measured in fractions of fractions of hundreds of thousands. IMHO the good results outweigh the bad.

The most dangerous part of getting the shot is in a gymnasium with a few dozen other people, i'm double masking and shielding (but i can't breathe <grin>) Otherwise i'm never among more than 4 people, never less than a meter apart, and always with mask, at age 77.

I agree on this, and expats are the worst. They seem to want to gather together around elderly people, giving my wife anxiety with nudging to go stand elsewhere - away from their BS clump. This isn't a joke, nothing to be cavalier about. Don't call your buddies over to sit around you and BS.
