    50 K Peso for a car ???

Teach , You have a lot of learning to do . 160 K in the Phils is a good price . Most will be 100 K to 500 K ( Toyota Revo ) for a 10 yo car/ multicab / anything . I don`t think you can get a Honda Wave 100 / insure / title it for 50 K . Let us know what you get and how much you pay on top to get it repaired / keep it running . :D

multicabs/multivans can be had used for as little as 85,000, I bought one last year in excellent shape. The problem here is finding a used anything in reasonably good condition, Filipino car owners as a rule do not maitain their vehicles, and drive thenm until they break down. Find a foreigner who is trying to leave the country and is wanting to sell their cars etc. in a hurry, and you can get a good car for a good price often.

If you buy a honda wave, true you can spend too much money on the name, about 55k plus. However you can get a nice new Chinese bike of good quality insured and liscensed for 35,000 150cc.

Of course "real" cars as in toyota, nissan etc. will be real money 200,000 plus surplus.

Spend some more money and be happy in the long run!

I agree with 415GEM. You CAN buy a used car for 50.000 peso in the Philippines, but for Petes sake don`t!

Problem is, in the UK or Europe old cars are pretty much worthless, because they are to expensive to maintain. Besides it is easy for almost everyone to get a car loan and buy a brand new car, so why bother with an old one?

In the Fillippines things are just the other way around. Hourly wages of a mechanic is a fraction of what they are in Europe. Also there is lots and lots of competition for the relatively limited amount of cheap used cars available, since many locals might have saved up e.g. 100.000 peso and can`t easily get a car loan. The situation is now made even worse by the fact, that a few years ago the government made it illigal to import used cars from abroard.

As a rule of thumb then, the more money you are willing to spend on a used car in the Filippines (up to a certain limit of course), the better deal you can get.

Please consider, that if you drive just 10.000 km pr. year, then you will spend maybe 45.000 peso on petrol alone (given you do 10 km/l, not an unusual figure in city trafic). In top of that add maintainance costs and you will find, that even if you spend 300.000 peso on a used car, depreciation will NOT be your biggest cost.

I bought a second hand Toyota Corolla back in 2004 for 265.000 peso, and frankly I would not recommend to go much lower than that, unless you want to buy a minicap and not a real car.

Point is, that now 4 years and 40.000 km later, I could still sell my Corolla at perhaps 200.000 peso = just above 15.000 peso in depreciation pr. year! Even with a very pessimistic assumption of resale value = 165.000 peso, depreciation has still only been about 25.000 pr. year, i.e. about half what you spend on petrol alone with current prices!

And my then 6 now 10 years old Corolla has been a so much better experience to drive than any car, I could have bought for 100.000 or 150.000 peso back then. And believe me, I tried quite a few.

I you really insist, then the cheapest cars on the market are almost ready to scrap examples of the horrible Kia Pride (saw one recently at 45.000) or very old jeeps. The latter will do maybe 6 or 7 km pr liter of gasoline, and you will need to bring it in the repairshop all the time. So it is hardly an economical choise, if you look at your total costs pr. year, even it is very cheap to buy.
