    I don't know.
    LOL
Go to China and exercise your right to free speech by criticizing the government. See what kind of investment you get.

LOL as well. But not funny. Go to US and make all these devastating revelations that exposed the way the US conducted its wars. Assange did. Then he got the full load what free speech means in the US. Under Trump the CIA wanted to kidnap and kill him in London. Sure, China is not any better. But the US is in no way the paradise for free speech and human rights.

Someone is soon going to make the point that telling the governments’ dirty secrets isn’t covered by free speech, but yeah, you’re right. It’s unfortunately not much better in the “west” in terms of free speech if what you’re about to say goes against the wrong people.

Re China - I think it’s obvious that this “deal” is a thing - the communists will have a really hard time justifying their rule and staying on top of things should economic growth stop. The general belief is that people are willing to give up certain freedoms in exchange for economic advantages. Loose these, and they might ask for real elections. I doubt that the communists could run the country for long by pointing guns at people.

Has not N. Korea done just that? What economic advantages to the people there have - food being the biggest need of all. They are kept in place by propaganda and fear (of the gun).

Governments are just Peoples. When they get tyrannical, they become diseased animals. History shows that good will rise. In this current time of the Cell Phone Zombie generation, best to know that a cup cake will not rise so get ready for tyranny..... it's a comin.

[QUOTE="NowandThen, post: 248903, member: But it seems there is not much power nor success coming from these guns anymore. The last the war they won was second world. [/QUOTE]

Back to back WORLD WAR CHAMPS!!!!
I would think the avg age of the people here would miss the "good 'OL days" before WOKEISM, critical race theory, and overly sensative and caution for political correctness.

Here is a link for MERICAN history in under 5 min. Enjoy

That’s comparing apples to oranges. I’d say it is near impossible to lock down a country the size of China in the same way. And if they tried, they’d lose much of their economic power that the west is so afraid of in the process.

It has been the hope of many in the democratic world, including politicians, that a growing economy and the subsequent emergence of a middle class would eventually lead to the downfall of the regime in China. That hope is what's been fueling western policies toward China in the last 4 decades until very recently.
When Deng Xiaoping opened up China to foreign investments, nobody lifted a finger to prevent multinational companies from investing there and building factories.
Throughout this period though, the CCP has dealt with social unrest in the only way it knows, by suppression and force. Tiananmen Square was just one example of that, there were many many more instances.
It would be smart not to underestimate the resolve of the CCP to remain in power, including their willingness to use force to stem dissent.
