That's not what I was saying. If you are dead you don't have any long term concerns. People in high risk categories (the elderly and disabled) shouldn't use (likely rare) long term side effects as an excuse to remain unvaccinated when they are much more likely to die in the short term from covid. But hey, if they don't want to get vaccinated more power to them, society will be better off without them. Less money given out in state pensions and disability pay checks. Are they seeing record numbers of serious illness and death? The US is an excellent example of how these covid vaccines work. We have a very large pocket of idiots that have refused vaccines based on party lies...err I mean lines. You don't have to go to small countries or city states to try to find data, the US has all the demographics, population densities and varying vaccination rates. The vaccines prevent people from getting seriously ill and dying. We know this. That is not up for debate. What is in question is how long this protection lasts. Boosters are nothing new. The anthrax vaccine doesn't stop you from getting anthrax. It increases your chance of surviving the infection. Yearly boosters are required to maintain immunity. While the vaccine is not a common one it is an example of one that needs boosters and doesn't really prevent infection. Also: Hepatitis A Hepatitis B Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) Varicella Shingles Pneumonia Varicella MMR All may require boosters at some point in a person's life.
“Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge. “Plenty of prisons,” said the gentleman, laying down the pen again. “And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?” “They are. Still,” returned the gentleman, “I wish I could say they were not.” “The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?” said Scrooge. “Both very busy, sir.” “Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,” said Scrooge. “I’m very glad to hear it. LOL Merry Christmas...
I didn't intend to cast doubt on the effectiveness of Covid vaccines to prevent serious illness and death; I merely gave those two examples to indicate what I said in my next sentence in the post from which you quoted: I haven't read reports yet that confirm "herd immunity" is a figment of the imagination for this virus and its variants but it sure seems to point that way.
In theory there could be herd immunity. Slow vaccine rollouts, hesitancy and not vaccinating children make it unlikely to happen.
Herd immunity is not necessarily black and white. Either you have it or not. Herd immunity can be that level of disease resistance that the economy and medical resources can manage. Obviously it would be best if the community resistance was enough to snuff this out. Poor vaccination uptake may postpone herd immunity until there is a pill that can be taken.
Travelling to Cebu from Negros is one thing But ( and there is always a But) re entry onto Negros is so very changeable
Seems a bit harsh, I normally let your comments wash over me and don't take most of them seriously but i can't resist this one. One thing that you should realize during your halcyon days of youth is that nobody can stop time and there really is only one alternative to getting old and yes you guessed it , IT'S dying young....
Context. It was a comment on people in high risk categories that refuse to care for themselves...not the elderly as a whole. If you are high risk and refuse to get vaccinated or even take basic precautions to protect yourself then so be it. Society can't stay on lock down because of these willfully ignorant people.
Ok ... were on the same page (except for the acceptable/beneficial loss of the elderly bit!). I might seem like an anti-Covid-vaxxer but I am really just arguing the general point of no-one knowing the future. However, I am in total agreement with you that millions more would now be dead and will die in the future if they do not get vaccinated.
