You say you buy 4 loaves at a time and freeze them, then you go on to say you had bread left out for two days and it went stale and mouldy, I think you are giving a bad impression to others about this Bakers adjacent to Octagon Bar (used to be called The French Baker it may now have changed its name?)I have been using them for over a year now and have never had a problem that I can think of? we buy three Loaves at a time which is about all we get in our small freezer, my Wife collects them and as soon as she arrives home she slices all three leaving just a quarter inch at the bottom of each loaf intact, when we need it we take it out the freezer and break off however many slices we need, 40mins thawing time or a quickie in the micro, (I'm not talking sex with the wife in the microwave, we did try it once but I was all spent in a fraction of a second) when it comes to bread we have zero waste in our house. I would Recommend this Baker to anyone, their wholemeal loaf is as good as any other I have had here, but don't ever expect a Loaf that sells in brown paper and not Plastic to have preservative in it, any good fresh Bread has to be eaten same day or be frozen like I do.
I think I made it clear why I don't buy from them and it wasn't a knock on their product. I'll have to look back but I believe I even said it was good bread. But in case I didn't I'll clarify: I didn't buy 4 loafs of bread or freeze any of them from the rolling pin. I bought one, it got stale and moldy in a couple days. I have bought other products from them but only when I planned on eating the entire item the same day. They make good stuff, it just doesn't hold up long enough for how infrequently I eat bread. I usually can't justify 1000+ calories (or however many calories it has, no idea since it isn't labeled) of bread in a day. I usually only eat 2-4 slices every other day. I buy 4 loafs of Gardenia or Ichipan at a time, open one, freeze the remaining. This, along with buying most other things in bulk, reduces the number of visits to the grocery store I need to make. (Reducing my likelihood of getting quarantined.)
Well the Rolling Pin was never mentioned by me, it was the French Baker outside Octagon I spoke of, you are correct it does not come labelled in either store, just in brown paper and I kind of like it that way.
We may be talking at cross purposes, it was called the French Baker not so long ago, but my wife seems to think it has changed its name, maybe RP has taken them over just like they did with Ludwig's?
Hmm. I thought the previous owners of The the Black Pearl (the French trio, with Alan still being with octagon) started the Rolling Pin, originally being located on the ocean side of the national highway, and Mark bought the two out that went back to France and moved everything over to where Octagon currently sits. I don't remember it ever being called the French Baker, though it would make sense knowing the previous owners. Always thought it was the Rolling Pin and Mark had been expanding the bakery since then.
There is a link with the word 'codger' between old people and bread. So it was bound to happen one day - and let's not mention 'getting crusty'. (Not sure why this was the 4th ranked search item on that subject: https://onlinedoctor.superdrug.com/cant-get-or-stay-hard.html).
