I am always surprised of the proposals made by the Filipino politicians. Nothing against bike lanes. But perhaps the proposed 14 billion pesos should be used for other urgent projects. A metro for example etc ? But these dreams have always existed in the Philippines. Also in Dumaguete. I remember the proposal to build a cable car to the Talinis Mountain (Cuerno de Negros) to attract tourists. Good idea. But that was it and it was only a daydream of the Mayor. Other countries in Asia did it. Like the Langkawi cable car (also called SkyCab) in Malaysia. I was there before Corona. The view was amazing. So it could be the same from the top of Mount Talinis. But it will never happen nor will there be bike lanes in Manila. But it would be nice if it ever became a reality. I suppose not in my lifetime.

Hope to see the bike lanes as it would be soooo entertaining. Bikes with 6 people on it, flat tires, no brakes, wobble wheels, drunks, chickens strapped on the sides with Goats, Pigs, and 100 kilos of recycling crap. All are driving staring at their cell phones and smashing into each other. It's MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Fun in da Philippines!!

I saw a funny video on TikTok where a Filipino cyclist in Manila was screaming "BIKE LANE!" repeatedly at motorcycle and car drivers that were using and blocking the bike lane. Nobody paid him any attention, which led to him becoming even more irate.

I would put my money on bike lanes immediately turning into an additional lane for vehicles and parking in most cities in the Philippines. No traffic enforcement, people will do what they please. You can paint all the lines you want, it isn't going to change a thing.

Takes time. For some years after the helmet law began to be enforced, it was seen on no more than 1 in 20 riders. Now it's nearly everyone. (Although many are what I call toy helmets.) I only wish lack of headlights would be cited--that affects the safety of others.

Compared to a metro or just another LRT line, bicycle lanes are much cheaper and easier to realize.

In cebu city I’ve noticed quite a few bicycle lanes in some areas, in the better neighborhoods (it park) even separated with plastic barriers. Seemed to be well respected all in all.

This is what infuriates me most about this place, they read news papers about what other country's are doing and then since they are also so well educated and exporting smart people all over the world they think they should adopt these new concepts.. for Christs sake how many Stop signs have you seen in Dumaguete.. Need to walk before you can even begin to run or think..
