I posted this graph before, here's an updated version of the situation in a big part of Europe and North America. The graph illustrates that in all but 3 of the depicted countries Omicron is causing record high (reported) new case levels, way above what was indicated last year as the limit hospitals could cope with in most countries (2,500 cases per million per week, the red line). So even if Omicron causes much less severe cases than earlier variants, then struggling/overwhelmed healthcare systems seem almost inevitable across almost all of these countries.
Notable absentees from this graph are Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium and Eastern Europe, where Omicron seems to be a little late in racking up huge numbers of cases.
I included the Philippines for comparison, one needs to consider much less testing here to understand why in this graph the Philippines seem the "perfect country to ride out this pandemic", but even with that in mind, so far we're doing much better than Europe / North America here. That doesn't mean that Omicron will politely pass on wrecking havoc here though, it just hasn't happened yet.

A Filipina returned to the Philippines from the US this month and, allegedly, skipped quarantine for 2 days and went out to dine and party before going to the quarantine center.

There is no hope for the Philippines to contain this variant any better than the West has. The Philippines is just lucky that it took this long to arrive here.

Has anyone thought about why the gap has been reduced? I would reasonably assume they'd done some research of some kind to arrive at a 6 month gap, which is what is used here in Kuwait, so why has the Philippines chosen 3 months when the first shot uptake is still so low, comparatively? Are there that many people unwilling to take even a first dose, that they feel there will be a significant enough impact on spread to begin distributing a third dose to the eager?

The Philippines already acquired in excess of 200m doses of vaccine. With many people hesitant to get vaccinated so far, the government had no choice but to start vaccinating children and doing booster shots.
The Philippines isn't alone in shortening the period between 2nd and 3rd shot though.

My wife and i had our booster on Tuesday, there was no choice of vaccine only Astra available, i posted some time ago that when we had our 1st and 2nd shot which was Sinovac and again no choice that we both had zero reaction or side effects so much so that i suspected we may have been given a placebo. :doctor:
This time we definitely got the real thing (i hope :nurse:) on Wednesday my wife complained that she felt like she had a hangover even though she has not drunk alcohol for over 10 years, i on the other hand could have had i hangover but i knew i did not and the way i felt must have been down to the vaccination, by Thursday we both felt ok but even today there is still slight tenderness at the area where the needle went in.
Has anybody else on the forum had that reaction to the Astra booster ?

I had a sore shoulder for about a week (I did a shoulder workout right after I got the shot, which didn't help). GF felt sick and had a sore arm for a couple days.

Had the sinovac jabs June and July, same as you zero side effects. then had the booster two days ago but it was pfizer. I felt rough the next day like a flu type fever
and joints aching also headache. I was thinking the same as you was it a placebo the original jabs of sinovac?

The asawa felt a little under the weather after the booster (Pfizer on top of Sinovac) for half a day or so, sore arm only for myself.

I had no problems from Pfizer booster. Left arm numb so not sure of soreness. Mentally feeling safer, but who knows?
