Look at the cluster f*ck of cables hanging on the poles right now. Now imagine what that would look like if the cables were out of sight and out of mind. What would happen during heavy rain? Would these conduits be properly waterproofed and/or have proper drainage? If course they wouldn't. It would be a complete disaster to put lines underground in this country.

Of course it does not work in this country. Interesting enough it does in countries where they have heavy rainstorms and floodings. But I guess thats the price living in the Philippines. For an American this is not a big issue. Same overthere in the outbacks. BTW, mind you, the people here would wish these cables could disappear. There was an article in Negros Chronicle about it. If I find the link I will add it.

Actually it may be coming sooner than expected.
    - VECO has started implementing the first phase of laying all cables underground along a one-kilometer portion between Capitol to Fuente Osmena in Cebu City.

Maybe some see Odette as a disaster deserving of buried cables. Blown off the poles or flooded in tubes underground, non-working powerlines are non-working powerlines.
