I've heard from a couple of Filipina's living stateside that their relatives are telling them that the Philippines is going to start locking down once the elections are over due to Covid cases increasing. They are just waiting until after the elections. Just curious if you're also hearing the same rumor.

New cases (reported) yesterday, 134 in all of the Philippines combined, down from 188 the day before.
That should suffice to dispel that rumour.

The rumor in Phs is that there will be a covid-19 election spike, presumably from election site crowding. I suppose this morphs into planned lockdown rumor. Personally, I think Easter Sunday would have done it if there were a suitable variant present.

Might be a low turnout at the elections due to all the people infected at the pre election rallies where thousands of people were crammed together :doctor::nurse:

I think most people are immune to the COVID fear mongering. At this point most people are vaccinated, have been infected, both, or just don't care. There is absolutely no need for government's to step in and place restrictions.

Discussing the matter further with filipinos, it seems the concern is who will be in power, and how 'he' may behave. The current president will be a lame duck until the end of the year; he says he intends to continue his drug war as a private person so who knows, he may resume his mass killing spree. And with BBM, governance could be beyond the worst that even Americans could imagine.

Some of my wife's relatives are going to vote for BBM because he is going to get the Marcos Gold that is in other countries and use it to pay off the debt of the Philippines. Pacquiao is going to build a house for everyone. You can't make this stuff up.

He also promises free internet even if you live on top of a mountain, we can't even get a phone signal so if i was allowed a vote it would definitely go to him.

I see a lot of envelopes being handed out around our area but we never get one because we are rich.
I find it strange that because my wife is rich they don't want to try and buy her vote, a vote is a vote whether it's a rich or a poor person.
