Hi read a few posts re this on here but most seemed a bit dated plus things do change. From the UK I use transfer wise now known as Wise, good gbp php rates, charges and efficient. Coverts and transfers pesos into my wife's BDO account within 24 hours on week days. I'm after an account for myself and intend living Valencia, Bacong area. Previously found setting up with BDO bank requirements over problematic, visa etc. Whereas Metro and China was far simpler. This was however many years ago and not on Negros. Initially just looking at a bank that accepts incoming pesos, atm card. I know BDO does this adequately. Also they have a branch at Robinsons. Big pluses but as a foreigner are they still difficult. Anyone have experience of the Metro Bank at Valencia or any others there as do prefer to have use of a local branch for the convenience. Thanks....
Called in the Metro dumaguete, lady there said to open an account I needed an ACR issued by immigration a few doors down. Then that along with my passport they would request further information before opening an account. My impression is that being seen as a tourist is not good. I went to immigration, bit of a queue so going back later today with passport, driving licence, original marriage certificate and the fee. Fingers crossed
I have an accout at AUB. I needed my passport and drivers license to open. Then filled out some paperwork on their I-pad, they took my picture, and I was all set. This was 2019. I dont know if they are inked with WISE, but we just wanted and extra account for me since BDO was - difficult
I don't recall BDO being all that difficult with opening an account (even with "tourist" status), but ymmv. I would recommend staying with one of the major banks to avoid problems with international transfers, but also to avoid getting caught in a bank failure. BDO, BPI, Landbank, PNB all seem solid options.
Cheers.... Metro Bank seem to be the most forthcoming for me any rate so far but still need to show a current ACR card or rather the receipt. The old expired one is not sufficient. This will take a few weeks to get as in 45 daysish from initial Philippines arrival. Will also get a secondary account in place from the above list. BDO is my choice and the wife agrees ha ha...
BDO at Rob is probably the only bank that has parking, but you may find that all the parking spaces are full. What my landlady would do is always tip the guard in the parking area P50, they recognize her car, and always find a place for her to park.
I use BDO at City Mall plenty parking spaces on the roof top parking. Just tell the guard you are opening an account and you be directed to a customer service lady...you don't need to wait on the chairs outside.
If you know you eventually are going to apply for an SRRV BDO or PNB are two of the banks you would be required to deposit your funds into so it would not hurt to start that banking relationship.
