I saw yesterday in the news that the UK is to ban this breed of dog by the end of the year, at first i thought this might be a bit harsh as it's the irresponsible owners that should be banned.
Then i read today that a man in the UK was killed when he was trying to protect his mother who in her own garden was being attacked by 2 of these dogs, the news report said the attack on him lasted 20 min and people did try to get them off him but could not manage, i applaud these people for trying.
Apparently the dogs belonged to her next door neighbour who left them in his garden while he was out at the time of the attack, the dogs managed to get through the hedge separating the gardens, the dogs are both dead now and he is being charged with manslaughter.

I agree with it being the owners who should be banned. The American Bully is a great dog, fun to wrestle with without fear of hurting it. Patient with kids and good looking too.
But, that's dependent on the owners. Even a beloved Goden Retriever or Labrador can be violent if that's what it was taught.
I feel bad for the dogs not being given a chance, no sympathy for the owner.

With the greatest of respect to owners of dogs, I realise that most dogs are bred as pets.
Some breeds of dogs are used for guide dogs because of their temperment and ability to be trained.
Other types/ breds of dogs are used as protection, which I understand, provided they are properly trained and controlled.
Sadly and more often is the case here in UK, that many owners of certain types of dogs neither know how treat them or train them,
the animals are often confined to the house and rarely exercised.
Sometimes the family themselves become victims of unruly dogs and it is a known fact that some animals have caused fateful injuries
within the confines of the home.
Pit bull dogs by their very name are feared in a lot of places.
Yes in the case in question the pair of XL American bully's, they escaped from the home, but before this incident took place, these dogs were known in the neighbourhood, more to come to light about the owner and his animals, I think.

I had and still have plenty of dogs. If you treat them like it should be no problem with other people or other dogs will occure.

A powerfull dog can be dangerous. Hence it is entirely under the responsibility of the owner to avoid critical situations.

Unfortunately not all dog owners are prepared and / or capable to own, train and control a dog. From many owners you simply should take away the dogs.

In case powerful dogs are not properly trained and controlled there will be only loosers. Unfortunately the dogs as well.

I got bit by a German Shepard dog, I was walking past the house minding my own business when the dog raced out of the front door and raced down the long driveway and bit my arm, luckily the owner rushed out and grabbed his dog by the ears and pulled the dog off me.
Reported to the police who took me to were the dog lived, the police told the owner if it happens again the dog would be put down.
Now if that was a child ?
