And again I got 2 large rice bags full of (mostly) wine BOTTLES and I wonder where I can bring/dispose them this time!?? I was wondering how you guys who live in the Dumaguete-City area handle this problem?? - It's getting harder every year to get rid of the glass here in general and RECYCLING doesn't exist on Negros island, as far as I know... Looking forward to your suggestions or to anyone who is interested to get some clean, reusable wine bottles for free!
Cardboard and plastic bottles are accecpted at the center across for BIR..Looking for glass place ?? WAS going to post this question, hopefully someone can answer this question ??????? WHERE CAN WE DROP OFF GLASS BOTTLES ???
Recycling glass is a rather marginal activity financially. Using recycled (broken) glass saves about 25% in the energy required to produce new glass, because recycled glass melts sooner than the (very cheap) raw materials. Part of that gain is lost because of the need to clean the recycled glass though. However, if the cost of collection/storage/transport of the recycled glass exceeds the remaining savings in energy for the production process of new glass then the only way there's going to be a recycling effort would be through political decision making. In our case here in Negros Oriental, with the nearest glass factory (afaik) over in Mandaue, we will most likely depend on local government action. I would not reasonably expect such action for another couple of decades though.
What about recycling in general - such as old furniture, white goods, garden waste? I know that some companies delivering furniture or white goods might take away the old but what if it is not a replacement? As for garden waste, I am aware that composting is the best but big pieces of wood are not suitable and fires not allowed (with which I agree) - so what do folks do? I have twice had someone with a megaphone driving past my house to inform local residents of the new (i.e. soon to be ignored) rules for waste but they shout through a megaphone whilst on the move and so each person catches about one twentieth of the content! Putting a flyer through each door appears to be beyond them - so apart from having a meeting of all the locals to piece together the entire message, what else can we do !
Regarding waste collection, the garbage collection truck stopped coming to our area over 1 year ago (no explanation given why), since then we have to take it to the collection point about 3km away, (then it's party time for all the stray/unleashed dogs) of course everybody in the area doesn't do this so plenty fires around our way. As i have often heard it's their country so i stopped giving opinions a long time ago, just let them fvck it up, their doing a great job.
In Dauin the trash wagon comes by every 2 weeks (Panubtuban) and picks up the trash. You have to pay for it though - about P300 for the year.
