During our 15 years marriage, we have only used her immediate family members as helpers. That has worked out okay albeit with plusses and minuses. For example, the trust and dependability as well as us doing our part providing jobs for them. The downside is the frustration that can pop up swell as the time off that occurs. But being I am PWD it is a blessing to have them.
I've learned never to complain about any instances because blood is thicker than water.

Anyone have similar experiences to share,

Pat...spouse's family can be awesome to work with or a nightmare.

We have some nieces and a nephew as well as a couple BIL that are working on the farm. Proud of the kids as there isn't much farming going on in the village anymore.

Food security is so important to me and hope this can be passed on as they look towards their future as young women and men.

From buying a jeepney franchise and then a tricycle franchise, not just with the aim of profiting but also to give the wifes relations a chance to dig themselves out of the gutter from offering them chances over and over to weeding and gardening at double the usual rates and other jobs i found to give them some chance at cash to better themselves ( setting them up with NFA rice licences) to building little extensions to their houses and stocking up on sari sari stores and not asking for any returns but only to reinvest their profits and try get better .........and i ain't no boss heavy tyrant..........but fuxx me.........each and everyone of them trumped each other with excuses and failure.........i have washed my hands of them, and everyone seems happier, them not having any money and me not giving any.........i will leave with an old irish saying.......google is your friend unless you are an native Irish speaker like me " dána gach madra i ndoras a thí féin"

Obviously, everyone's situation is different. I leave most of the decisions to the wife; fortunately she sees the bigger picture. We help out mostly with sending rice, fresh fish and other food stuffs to the family in the village every couple of weeks. It's not a lot but it's also not a little.

We've been good at trying to employ family members going back to when we were building the house; but they get paid the same as everyone else and there is no special treatment. I don't deal with the daily drama of things, but can say the wife has dismissed family members the same as other workers; she doesn't play when it comes to production.

    Best of luck!

    Shawn
