Today saw the official inagural mass of the first American Pope, Pope Leo. Interestingly enough there was the traditional fitting of the "Fishermans ring" on to the new popes finger, this was fitted by the Filipino Cardinal Tagle. Amongst those present was J D Vance and Marco Rubio together with Ukraines President Zelensky. There was a private meeting of President Zelensky and the new Pope Leo, during which, bringing the war in Ukraine to an end was dicussed. A platform for peace talks was offered by the Vatican, where others have failed.
I am hoping this pope eliminates the sexual abuse problem in the Catholic Church. As a teen, two boys from my neighborhood who were sent to a Catholic boys home were molested and never the same. Suggestion: start in the seminaries where I believe is the root of the problem. Disclaimer - I was an alter boy and never abused.
Yes Pat, lets hope that he will be open about all matters concerning sexual abuse within the church, while highlighting poverty and non-sexual abuse that happens throughout the world. There is a lot of sexual abuse in the news lately, but it is not just confined to the catholic church, past or present. It happens in all walks of life from business, entertainment, sports, such as swimming, tennis, football, scouting and schools as examples, even within families! Pope Francis was not big on disciplining his Cardinals and Bishop in public but I do believe the finance comity got the sack and some bishop from Germany was "promoted" to supervisor of stray dogs somewhere in Argentina. It's possible Pope Frank did not like Tagle. When Pope Francis was first elected he gave his views about homosexuals, gay marriage and a few other things. The next day Tagle made a public statement telling people not to misunderstand what the Pope meant and then proceeded to quote from the Bible contradicting the Pope completely. If I were Frank, Tagle would be somewhere in Argentina supervising the cats.
