Hi, Not sure if anyone has experience of this so any advice would be useful. My 16 yr old son has dual citizenship (UK/Filipino) and will be leaving the country for the first time to join the Royal Navy. As he has a UK passport (as well as a Philippine passport) does he need to apply for clearance or is he exempt? TIA
I hope for your son that the Philippines doesn't have a law similar to the Netherlands, which says that any citizen will automatically loose their citizenship when joining the armed forces of another country (they also don't allow dual citizenship). Aside from that, it might be a little easier for a 16 yo boy to travel abroad alone than would be the case for a girl, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he needs a notarized consent from both parents. At the very least I would make sure about that upfront. The exit clearance thingy should not be an issue if he uses his Philippine passport to leave. Just need to pay travel tax at the airport then.
My wife is in Cebu and she handled all the paperwork. I do know my son needed a notarized parental consent, I think a copy of passport, maybe copy of birth certificate, arrival adult passport copy and notarized letter saying expensed including medical, not sure what else. He has both US and PI passports and was traveling to Australia.
