    Having recently loss my sister, her funeral was last Wednesday, not only does it remind one of your own mortality, but it throws up the financial cost of living in a Nursing home for any length of time. Some people might find the subject taboo, to even talk about such things, however we all have to face the prospect of old age, at some point.

    With that in mind, here are a few facts;
    The average price of care in the UK per week is between £900-£1200 per week depending in which part of the UK you choose to live. Full time 24/7 medical care can be much more expensive.

    Funeral Expenses;
    A modest funeral or Cremation service starts around £1800 or a burial approx £4200.
    Once more that will depend on the amount of cars used and does not include the cost of any refreshments for attendees , after the service.

    This subject is for UK Expats, who might be considering a return to the UK
    for personal reasons.

    Bit of a morbid subject, but dying is another on the long list of things that are cheaper in the Philippines than in western Europe.
    We bought a plot at a local cemetery for the price of around 5 evenings out (dine & wine) with the wife in the Netherlands.
    coffins and headstones are both much cheaper here also.
    I assume that similarly cremations are much cheaper also. I did hear that the crematoria here overprice their urn collection though.

    Shame on them......I always thought they used re-cycled containers in the Philippines.
    Hope that lightens the post for you Dutchie.

    I don't know.
    Actually the cost of dying there in the Philippines may well cost you and Arm and a Leg? it you have a long protracted illness over there, the medical profession will start cutting your limbs off, arms and legs are worth a half million pesos per operation, if you die in your Bed that will be OK, but if the Doctors there get their knifes into you they will prise every peso they can from you.

    I just don't believe it! Megan Markle's father is in hospital now in the Philippines.

    Update - I just read they cut a leg off! :( (True).

    But on a serious note (not disrespecting that Mr. M's condition is serious), I know of someone conned into a 85k (one night inpatient and a GA) operation (where I criticised the so-called 'doctor' to his face and he clearly did not like it) and then had to have it repeated by a proper doctor at a cost of 5k (done in 15 minutes with local anaesthetic as an outpatient).
