An official from Valencia mayor came around and told my wife and all our neighbours that from now on our garbage which used to be collected on Monday morning will no longer be collected, this applies to the whole Valencia area. The reason he gave was that a foreigner (trouble making foreigner) bought some property around 200mt from the rubbish tip then built a house then complained about the smell. If this is truly the reason then this foreigner must have some clout (that means friends in high places) When i heard this i asked the messenger what do we do with our garbage, do we have to take it somewhere, blank stare from him, he is only the messenger not the provider of solutions. I then said to him does that mean we can stop paying property tax, same blank stare. I then said, do you realize that some people but not US will just start dumping garbage wherever it's convenient for them, blank again.
I heard this also. I think some filipinos will start to burn their garbage. Or bring it to Dumaguete somewhere. Not sure yet what we will do.
A collared shirt and shoes does pass for someone official around these parts. The right question would be "can I see your ID" If he has one ask him to hold it up so you can take a picture of him and his ID at the same time. Ask him where his clipboard is. How is the mayor going to know he informed everyone if he doesn't write every name down. Throw it in the river, eventually it will be Dumaguete's problem.
We had a similar issue up here in the hills - the LGU eventually (after many complaints) transferred the responsibility to the Barangay Captain and collection resumed at P5.00 per bag - collection on request. No problem
