The Negros Chronicle - News around Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, Philippines » Crime Week Be careful! Sun.Star Dumaguete - Silliman students score 'worsening' crime situation Here is a list that states that the crime rate is decreasing from 24 to 14 incidents of criminal activity such as: Dumaguete University Town - Dumaguete Peace and Order Situation "The Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR) is 18.8 incidents. Common street crime incidents include burglary, theft and robbery/hold-up. Robbers/Holduppers usually ride in tandem on a motorcycle and uses small caliber firearms." Hey, thats what I said! the Weekly Sillimanian - Snatching, hold-ups top Dgte crimes Interesting note that I discovered was that a good deal of robberies as stated above by the police are not being reported. Anyway, as I stated in the beginning, be aware of your surroundings!
Wow! Here is another person that has some interesting news "FACTS" regarding Dumaguete's crime problems. This is my Blog Site: On crimes in Dumaguete City... I suggest that you read this and just be aware of your surroundings.
I think that the Police Chief of Dumaguete states it quite clearly in September 2008 in his statement, "Meanwhile, speaking in the same forum held in celebration of National Crime Prevention and Control Week, Dumaguete City Police Chief Insp. Manuel Hidalgo urged residents in the city to be cautious against making themselves vulnerable to crime." Hey! Didnt i suggest this too? Yes, I did! Now, I am being berated to show the "facts" When the Dumaguete City Police Chief Insp. "urges" the residents in the city to be cautious against possible crime incidents, call me any name you wish but, I suggest that everyone take this seriously and be more aware of their surroundings.
Hey Tubigboy, I'm sure many on this board would categorize you and the Chief as being paranoid and continue to their way of being oblivious to their surroundings....after all, THIS IS the Philippines, not US you know...LOL:D
Yes, sad but probably true. Try and help some people and they spit on you. I just hope no one is ever taken advantage of by some perp. Sounds like the Chief is doing his best job too. Oh well.
Look I also posted that awareness is important, it is a known fact as well that the more crime reports you read the less safe you feel. But you got to be pragmetic in it and take out tips to decrease your risk, like you keep an eye out for the weather and avoid building your home on potential landslide areas and riverbeds. Be prepared rather than be scared, nothing good comes from fear and it turns irrational very fast. Statements like 'be cautious against making themselves vulnerable to crime' are standard police statements all over the world. If you want to be scientific about it you got to compare the stats to similar sized cities in and outside the Philipines. Philippines that site has some interesting stats, for some reason in Indonesia Brits all end up in traffic accidents while in spain they are bound to be arrested for drunk and disordely conduct.:D
The heck with that! I just wanted to help some people. I think I made it worse! Maybe some good will come of my postings. I think that some of the people in dumaguete have business's in dumaguete and they dont want to hear anything negative about dumaguete or the Philippines for that matter. I understand this. So, I will fade away on this topic.
Safety in Philippines US department of State issues travel warnings for the following countries: Current Travel Warnings Philippines is listed as one of twenty eight countries along with Somalia, Afghanistan, Congo, and Iraq.
