We have FINALLY moved into our new, permanent home here in Dumaguete (in Banilad). Just today our internet connection was done, and we are slowly but surely making our new home "comfortable."

What we are now looking for is a guard dog -- we have a private home, fenced yard, very well-lit, but we'd like to add a dog for extra security (and also companionship, LOL).

Can anyone recommend a source for a good-natured, but protective dog? We do not want a puppy -- we'd prefer a dog that is at least a year old.

    Thank you!!!!

    Ric & Sue,

Retrievers are too friendly to be a guard dog, pitsbull family are hot tempered and agressive even attack masters.Others are hard headed, deaf and cannot withstand with the climate in this country
The Belgian Malinois is suitable for a guard dog, easy to train, loyal to masters, and can withstand with the climate of this country as to the behavior theyre not too friendly to everyone because based on my experience, theyre wise and has a feeling to a person who approaches them and to their masters. They can sense one's intention yeah that's true!

pls visit belgian malinois dogs website to know more about this man's best friend variety! Have a safe home to you and to your family

    Don,

well it is not false rumors coz there are already 3 victims of their pitbull dogs, just my neighbors. Thats true the attitude of a certain dog depends on how their masters taught them to be...same with doberman pincher coz I myself was a victim before. Im just saying what ive witnessed and experienced. others may believe, others may not. The thing is, it is still how we treat and train our dogs no matter what kind they are!

    peace

Belgian Malinois, a.k.a. Belgian Shepherd, are very good dogs, but they and German Shepherds do not tolerate heat well and end up with major skin problems if left out in the heat. They originate from Germany and Belgium, and love cooler weather including snow!

We have two what they call "Bisaya" dogs in the house and they are very affectionate, loyal, charming and protective to us but fierce to strangers or to anyone who does not live in the house. LOL.No one would dare come to our house even if the door is open because of my two dogs who behave like it's their duty to guard us. We did not buy them, they were just given to us free because in this country, no one wants to buy dogs without breed.

Yup, I agree with you.....German Shepards ARE a excellent "Guard Dogs" (as well as the Dobbie), but being long haired and naturaly bred from a much cooler enviroment, they doon't tolorate heat well - as you pointed out.

That's the reason why I didn't include them in my prior post

(Thanks for your concurrance, Larry.....)

Thank you all for your posts! I appreciate the suggestions and advice. Are there any doberman breeders in or around DGT that I may contact?
