Will you keep a gun when living the Philippines?

I know of two stores that sell pellet guns as you describe, as far as a license, you can buy these at these establishments without any license, unlike a real gun.
Whether you NEED a license is a matter of some controversy, I suppose if you keep it at home only shoot rats and wild dogs, no one will care.
You are not required to register these at the time of purchase.

 

Sorry, I don't live in or near Dumaguete. In my search for answers I was caught up in the discussion in this thread. Seemed like some of the members here may know about pellet guns. I'm not having much success here in Davao City.

 

I think you won't have much luck in Davao. It is my impression that guns are tightly controlled there, and that may extend to pellet guns. The mayor is careful to control because of the Muslim terrorist threats in and around Mindanao.

The upside is it is very safe there unlike Dumaguete with its roving gangs of armed robbers, drug dealers, and corrupt police. Not to mention vigilante gunmen.

It seems the more beautiful places here the less secure you are. Even here in Davao. I would love to move up into the mountains here but everyone tells me it isn't safe for me there. It's a shame because it is cooler, greener, less people...I don't see any downside except some of the people there.

My wife and I went to South Mall here in Davao yesterday and I did see a few air guns in the department store there. The staff couldn't help me with them though. I asked to see the manual for the pistals so the sales lady went in the back and brought me out the manual for the rifles. I asked the young man if he would let me hold them. He was really nice and took them out of the case. As I was turning the gun around he said, be careful, it is loaded I couldn't believe that because my wife had asked him if we could test it out. I was like, no sweetie. They can't load it in the store. Anyway, those guns were too big and heavy. They looked old to.

One of my wife's cousins has an air rifle he uses on the birds here that eat his fish. Haven't had a chance to catch up with him yet but he was in the military at one time. We also have police in the family. I will try to talk to them about air guns to.

Before settling here in Davao, I did a lot of research on crime and the mayor here. I like how he handles criminals here. It is kind of scary for anyone to have that kind of power but then when you think about it. How come he has a 97% approval rating? It is well known if you want to come to Davao to cause problems, someone will know. It is not a safe place for bad people. Where have you heard that before? Maybe Cuba.

That said, bad people are here just like anywhere else. Most people know who they are but they are still here. The other night someone went around the neighborhood going into peoples houses while they were asleep, stealing and eating their food. He went into my in-laws house and stole the babies formula. They found the box outside. Worst part of this story is I was up chatting with my moms in the US. Think it was about 1am when this guy went in my next door neighbor's house. She was alone with her children. He wouldn't leave until she called out for my son because his window is always open. I didn't hear here and my son is 16 so he hears nothing even when he is looking at you talking to him. It is not likely anyone can get into my house. I thought about these things long before coming to the Philippines. Walls are concrete, windows are barred and the doors have heavy steal screen doors. Even most of the roof is concrete.

I also agree that having dogs is the second hurdle to put up for unwanted company. The first is a good fence. A baseball bat or masheti would be your last defense. Of coerce I believe in being nice to your neighbors and to always have a smile for them. The problem with that is the kind of people that want to take what is yours (your things or your life) see your kindness as weakness. What do you do when they poison your dogs, come over your fence and now you have to face them with a bat or masheti. I just rather not get that close to them.

My understanding is you not from the Philippines and you shot someone with a gun, you are real big trouble. Do you trade that for your families welfare? Do you wait until the guy is in your house about to harm you, your family or both? I read someone say that you shouldn't live somewhere where you don't feel safe. I'd like to know where that place is. Everyone I knew in the US would tell me how nice and safe my neighborhood seemed. I still didn't walk around it at night. All that said. I got to thinking after this real cute, scared, young mother next door was put in a situation of a prowler in her house and her husband was at work. What could I or should I have done if I had heard her? Run up to the guy and try to hit him with a bat? What if he had a gun. Or even if he didn't have a gun, why do I want to get that close to someone with bad intentions? Now if I was up on my second floor porch and saw him, I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot him with a really strong pellet gun. while he is shocked with real pain, then I could run up to him with a bat. Now don't get me wrong. I pray I never have to hurt anyone. I don't like killing all these ants in my house and can't bring myself to kill the lizards. So this isn't something I would be looking forward to but what do you do if you have nothing?

This is not the only reason I want a strong pellet gun. I really do want to shoot stuff. Not looking to shoot anyone and I am not looking to get close enough to someone that wants to do me bodily harm to defend myself. I have always wanted a good pellet gun. If I am going to spend my money, I don't want a toy. I would never carry it off my property either.

As far as I can tell sntmig, Hahn in Manila has only real firearms. I sent them an email just in case.

Sorry, only looked briefly. I will look further at that site. So, what do you think about your gun? Did you see the youtube video where the guy has a pump action rifle and he pumps only once and shoots holes right into an ammunition box? The pellets looked like small bullets in plastic casings. Can you find that kind of power in a small hand gun? I have lots of questions. I guess time and research will answer most of them.
