Hosea...thats the Hatsen line of air rifle/pistol. High quality, power,no CO2 !!..break barrell or lever.. web site has all the tech info and pics and prices..
Better check to see if you need a permit in Mindanao. Also,it is probably better if purchased by a Philippino, cause permits, even for air rifles, are NOT available to foriengers.

here is a little story, my own, maybe not just on topic, but since it seems that the discussion's intimating that some of you might want to shoot intruders in your house or protect yourself with a handgun and or pellet gun and that somehow that's OK in the Philippines.

I live in another province now, but I love Dumaguete. lived there safely and peacefully for three years.
I had a little store and eatery in a out of the way Barangay. We had of course security concerns, I had a stun gun, i had wireless closed circuit TV, and motion actuated lights. And of course the obligatory baseball bat. I did not have a gun.

One night sitting there about 11:00,(I had just secured my laptop and put it behind the counter), some strange guys came to buy something, you tend to notice strangers as most of our customers were neighbors or regulars. they milled around a bit and left. Shortly after, a motorcycle pulled up next to the store, on the side hidden from view. next thing two guys came around the corner, one with a gun in each hand. One as a look out, not apparent that he had a weapon or not. I sat there as the gunman methodically went around the store pointing one gun at a customer, and one at me and or my general direction. So what would having a gun in my possession have done?, forced a shoot out? as it was he took some personal property then left, no one hurt. And they new exactly where the laptop was stashed.

This was organized, planned and well executed, there is more, but if you want to know, I think there is a thread somewhere that has more details here. Sorry not sure where or what forum topic.

Sorry for your experience RHB but you can’t call that kind of thing before it happens. How many times have we heard or seem video of those kinds of robberies where everyone was killed, even when they didn’t fight back? You just never know what is on the mind of a bad guy. It would be stupid of me to think that an air gun or real gun would have done you any good.

In my case, I just want to shoot stuff like cans, trees, dogs on my property that don’t belong and maybe even birds. My renter had 7000 fish in one of our large ponds until one or two birds ate 6900. I don’t like stepping on bugs so I’m not sure I could even kill a bird.

As far as shooting a man that is breaking into our house. I will pick up whatever to protect my family and what is mine. Be it an air gun, bat or whatever is handy at the time. I was attacked once in my life. That didn’t turn out well for the other guy as he was flying backwards over his desk. It was really unreal because I didn’t even feel the weight of his body. All I knew at that moment was this guy has me in a hold and I can’t see what he is planning next.

As far as a stun gun goes. As I said before, I don’t want to be that close to the bad guy if avoidable. Not even one of those that shoot wires. If it is at hand, then it falls into that category of whatever is handy. If my wife has to shoot him from a far with a very strong air gun, then too bad for the bad guy. I have seen what some of those pellet guns can do so even though it may not kill him, by the time he gets off the ground from the pain of it a bat may just be the next thing he doesn’t see hit him. Again, my wife might just get to him before I do (cause she is Filipino).

I will find out as much as I can about all gun usage rights in Davao City. I don’t want problems with anyone, including the law.

Thanks sntmig I tried briefly to find that model air gun with no success.
I did go downtown Davao City earlier today and passed by a gun store. I quickly entered the stores phone number because we were on our way to take care of other business. I called them later in the day but communication wasn’t good. I’m going to have to go there to see if they have anything I can use.

Kids getting hold of guns, firing, and killing people do happen and they did happen in this city involving 5-year-olds who got curious. One killed his own brother, while the other one killed his own father who supposedly taught him how to handle a gun. Kids are just that, and having a firearm in a house where you have curious kids is a risk.

    A few commnets

First time on the forum. I spent a lot of time reading over the comments on guns, ownership and usage. Quick background:
Army medic 1970-72. Red Cross first aid instructor. Volunteer fireman-ten years. Firearms Safety Instructor. Long distance shooter.
I used to burn around 8,000 rounds a year, all at inanimate objects. Carried (legally) for thirty years. The PRESENCE of the weapon saved me and those with me from severe personal harm twice. Didn't need to shoot the bums after they saw the weapon in its holster but ready for use.
Having the training and experience before the potential use is a no brainer.
If I move to the PI (from my current home in Ecuador), I would like to own and use firearms. If legal, I will. If not I will not... They are legal here, with restrictions...
This discussion, as others, would be helped if a few basic rules were kept in mind.
The attitude of "I don't like it/feel the need for it/see the use of it, so you shouldn't be allowed to have it" is far from reasoned argumentation. Having built, driven and raced pretty much anything with wheels, I find most people poorly qualified to pilot the family car or motorcycle. But I share the road with them. Also, emotional epithets, snide remarks etc. in lieu of thoughtful commentary is usually counter-productive...
Looking forward to a trip to the PI in a couple of months, and meeting some of the forum members personally.
