    WINTER'S DELIGHTS.

    Now winter nights enlarge
    The number of their hours,
    And clouds their storms discharge
    Upon the airy towers.
    Let now the chimneys blaze,
    And cups o'erflow with wine;
    Let well-tuned words amaze
    With harmony divine.
    Now yellow waxen lights
    Shall wait on honey love,
While youthful revels, masques, and courtly sights
    Sleep's leaden spells remove.
    The time doth well dispense
    With lovers' long discourse;
    Much speech hath some defence,
    Though beauty no remorse.
All do not all things well:
    Some, measures comely tread,
    Some, knotted riddles tell,
    Some, poems smoothly read.
    The summer hath his joys,
    And winter his delights;
Though love and all his pleasures are but toys,
    They shorten tedious nights.

    _Thomas Campion._

I heard this Scottish Song many years ago and a couple I met on holiday very kindly sent me a copy of the music and words back in 1995.
    Title....Haste you back....
Here's my wish to you in parting, As you leave for another shore
May your guiding star be with you, Till you return to me once more
Haste you back I love you dearly, Call again you;re welcome here,
May your days be free from sorrow,
And your friends be ever near,
May the path o'er which you wander Be to you a joy each day.
Haste you back I love you dearly Haste You Back on friendships way.

    Words by Robert Wilson
    Music by Leslie Sturdy

    Christmas 2009

    Because it's Christmastime again
    I said a little prayer
And sent it up to Heaven
to place it in God's care
The prayer was for your happiness
    and for Blessings from above
To fill your days in special ways
with lots of joy and love

    Anon; Fiesta Greetings

Merry Christmas to all our subscribers and readers.......JB

    Women

    One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men.....

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in..

    They stand up to injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer

when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

    They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

    a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

yet they are strong when they

think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

    can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what

    makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

    They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

    family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

    and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,

IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

WE all know how complex women are
But since I don't know a better sex (I mean the 'other (female)' sex and not making ....), I'm quite satisfied and do accept all these encumbrances :D

    England my England

    England my England

Goodbye to my England , So long my old friend

Your days are numbered, being brought to an end

To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine

But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such

So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch

You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane

But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo

In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too

Even schools are affected. Staff do as they're told

They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw

The pupils don't learn about them anymore

How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?

When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?

Europe is miles away, over the sea

We're the English from England , let's all be proud

Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud!

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too

We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue

Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack

Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

    Jim.

    Good for You !!!!

    Jim, I enjoyed your poem...
rarely hear expats express their pride for their country; mostly they complain about their land of birth, which I find sad.
One should always be proud of one's country of origin, even with its problems and weaknesses... our country had allowed us to live, be educated and find work... there are other countries where conditions could be worst.
So let everyone be proud of their land of birth, like you...
