Riding groups in Dumaguete

Well I guess a 125 ccm should do and maybe a jeepney for a car with buss conversion in back...LOL Afterall it is only means of transportation!

The bike I have now is a BMW K1200LT 2003 modell that I imported from the US this year.
Price in the US was US$ 12999.00 + freight $600
Norway the land of taxes added so much that the final sum was US$ 30.000.- for it!!

But what a bike it is!!!!

I would how ever not use such a bike down there.

 

To answer your question about Dumaguete.
first, motorcycle here means moped for 99% of the local population.
Big bikes, anything over 150cc (local perception), are fewer. Foreigners are buying surplus yamaharleys like the 1100cc V max for 250,000 pesos up to 500,000 pesos, and this for a used bike. There are a few for sale if you look hard. Yamaha Specials are around also, mostly 1980 vintage and used up. these are a 4 cylinder inline 550cc. Not sold in the U.S to my knowledge. Also a few Viragos, trouble...

honda Steeds are also numerous here, 400cc and I think 750cc versions. again all surplus. They are pricey compared to used U.S. prices for similar vintage bikes. I looked at a steed for 180K, 400cc.

There are several hard core Filipino riding clubs, mostly military and politicians as well as local wealthy guys. If you buy a "big bike" you will be invited to ride with them if you are introduced.

Yes Manila is where you may have to buy a new bike. Cebu is also a possibility, but to my knowledge no new bike dealers with anything of size, still only surplus machines.

Riding groups

I planned on bringing over a Harley, an Indian, and an Excelsior Henderson. However, importing them, as I have been told, is an absolute nightmare. I do have a contact in Manilla who works for DHL, and he said he can get them into Dumaguete leagally for me and only for a few hundred dollars fee each.

I haven't found any big bike clubs in Dumaguete. However, I have been asked to ride with the Mad Dogs in Manilla, which would mean shipping one of the bikes there.

I have been building custom Harleys for 40 years, but bringing one to Dum. when I move over may just be too difficult.

The Outlaws are in Carcar, Cebu so contact me here and I will email you the number. These guys can help you out on most info needed. I think one is a wrench as well, so if anyone needs their Harley worked on they can help. They will know all the ends and outs on shipping. They are good guys and remember that the Outlaws are now a brother club to the Bandidos, so look for the Red & Gold of the Bandidos in the Philippines soon.

 

Some underbones and scooters are liquid cooled, such as the Yamaha sniper and the new honda pcx 125 scooter. Both should be durable and top 100 kph even with my 110 kilo mass. They are fast enough for me and are pretty reasonably priced, although the honda pcx is a new model and I don't think supply has caught up to demand. Robert K

 

I have a Suzuki Marauder 800 here in Davao. I plan to bring it to Dumaguete when I move there but I'd be interested to do a deal with someone on an off roader such as a Yamaha XT600 or similar. I do tend to find a lot of bad and/or unmade roads in my travels & I miss the offroading. The Marauder was a special import from Japan by the KTM dealer in Quezon City, it's a real nice cruiser and extremely low miles with only 2 owners & under 10,000 km covered. I keep her nice....

 

Andy, welcome to this forum. Are you considering putting your bike up for sale? I think they stopped selling that model in '03, what year is yours? Had a look at them on the internet, nice looking bikes. Cheers

 

Hi Pat, Thanks for the welcome. I am thinking about selling it, yes. I have an XRM 125 to tide me over til I can find a replacement. The bike is a 97 model, bought by an old guy who was too scared to ride it far. He did 1500km on it in 11 years and I bought the bike from the dealer who imported it for him. He part exchanged it for a brand new Ducati! I've done another 8000km since I bought it in 2008. You should know that I had a custom paint job done which you may or may not like. I can send you pictures if you like.... As for price, I guess I'd accept around P250,000 for her. I know there are plenty of big bikes around at much higher prices but I can't be a part of that. I fitted a new genuine Suzuki battery in 2009 which cost 7000 pesos. I will include new tyres as the originals are not good really, the compound's gone & they're split.

 

Thanks Andy. I have been looking for a smaller bike like a Kawasaki Rouser, not sure I could handle a bigger bike or if I could get my leg over over to ride it, got a bad hip. How high does it sit? Would enjoy seeing a picture, my email is pmindoro@yahoo.com. Cheers
