Okay, onto a new thread that hopefully wont get closed........... I love Bloody Mary Mix (really, just the mix without the vodka). Can you buy it here or do I just need to make my own? I have looked a couple of places, but maybe am not looking in the right places. Also, what would be the best tomato juice to use in mixing my own? (If they just had spicy V-8 juice here I wouldn't even be wanting to find the Bloody Mary Mix)
Reedee...here in the UK they use tomato juice and "Lea & Perrins" Worcestershire sauce. But can't say you will find that in PI...but you never know regards JB
Bloody Mary Mix Thanks!! Yep, Lea and Perrins is what I have always used in the kitchen, and thankfully they have that here!! I have found some nice recipes in case I can't find the pre-made mix. It also has to have hot sauce (preferably Louisiana Hot Sauce, but I may have to settle for tabasco). Some I have seen even call for horseradish sauce, not sure I will go that route!!
You'll love the Lea and Perrins Worcester sauce (or as Godfrey Cambridge quipped in ebonics wha's dis here sauce?). Lee's and Hypermart (same lackadaisical ownership) manage to stock two lines of exactly the same thing next to one another. Same line item, same size: one imported from UK and the other from New Jersey. Different prices - of course; one is considerably more expensive than its neighbour. I'd tell them but I'm waiting to see if anyone working there ever notices. Hot sauces? There are plenty, many from Louisiana. Tobasco is THE original Louisiana hot sauce. I prefer Franks. Available at Ayala in Cebu in the half-gallon (US) bottle, if you plan on living long enough to need that much. If you enjoy a Virgin Mary, you might also enjoy Clamato Juice - the basis of the Caesar. Who said nothing good ever came from Calgary?
The Bloody Mary is sometimes a person’s first introduction into the world of spicy cocktails. I know that once I had tried one, I immediately started experimenting with hot sauce and hard liquor. There is a wide variety in how spicy your drink can be; anything from mild warmth to breathing fire.
This is an old thread, but ...................... Bloody Mary. 2 ice cubes. 2 shots of clear vodka. 3 times as much tomato juice as vodka. 1 or 2 drops of concentrated lemon juice. 1/2 a teaspoon of Lea & Perrins Worcester Sauce. Stir. Add a pinch of ground black pepper to sit on the top of the drink. Add a wedge of lemon to the rim of the glass. Enjoy. If it's a slow evening drink to savour, rub the wedge of lemon around the rim of the glass. A small celery stick is optional. If it's for a hangover, squeeze the wedge of lemon into the drink and down in one. If your stomach can keep it down, you should be right in about 30 minutes !! Other than Unterberg, it's the most popular hangover cure that I sold. Roger (retired UK publican).
Did you ever get pissed off at one of your former customers and serve him a bloody mary with a string hanging out of it?
