I've tried the Burpee seeds here and found out that there is a "Heat Wave Tomato" that seems to produce more fruit than other varieties. Burpee doesn't ship overseas so you need to have a contact in the USA who can send them over to you. I also got some red okra which is doing extremely well. I live right on the Sea so I have some different problems that can be challenging. With the weather recently being a little cooler I've had a lot of success with Green Bush Beans and Eggplant. Not my expertise, I'll just have to take your word for it.:D

 

Gardening is good, and it earns quite well if you are able to grow your vegetables well. There's not much vegetable plantations here in the province, and there are definitely a lot of places where you can grow these plants. There is a lot of market too, with the nieghboring areas such as Cebu and Bacolod growing fast, I guess people here would be eating a lot of vegetables. I guess it only takes some initiatives to come up with good vegetable plantations and earn from them well.

I heard bell peppers are good vegetables to grow because they are not cheap and they do not perish as fast as other vegetables such as eggplants or green leafy vegetables. Some of my friends said that we should definitely use less fertilizers and pesticides to make our vegetables healthier and taste better to the palates.

 

Hello everybody, i live here at Dumaguete for couple of months now and i am searching and searching for a shop/center where they sell plants ( to cultivate in the garden ) In my country we have lots of those garden-centers where you can buy all kids of plants and even trees etc etc .. but seems not to exist in Dumaguete. Thanks for comments .

 

I wouldn't waste time and money on seedlings Harald. Grow from seeds....much cheaper and you have some control on the plant and any diseases it may introduce. Plant seedlings, especially in the Philippines, and you may find that you have introduced a wilt or other fungal disease into your patch. I've had it happen here - and learned my lesson - am still battling fusarium wilt from a dud nursery years ago. Now I'm seeds only and I try them in a pot first. Check ebay for seeds or look around some of the western seed suppliers on the web and have them shipped in bulk. On tomatoes, a constant issue in the Philippines....I have had great results from the Thai pink egg tomato (smallish 2" fruits - taste ok but not brilliant) in very hot and sometimes humid conditions down here...and pretty good results from an heirloom - Bonnie Best - which taste fantastic and produce like crazy...in our hot weather...easily got a couple hundred large tomatoes off of two particularly happy plants...Good luck Harald and keep us posted on how you go. It could become more important than you think....

As I go back to Europe in some time from now I considered to take european tomato seed with me and try some potatoes. maybe stupid but an experiment .
maybe can buy in thailand ( I fly via Bangkok) can buy that thai tomato-seed you mentionned.
