My wife and I are willing to pitch in p5,000 too. An option could be to tie in with the Dgte Rotary Club, I know some "honest" members and have been invited to join. Or we could appoint a lead person who could research opportunities and of course keep a ledger.

    A Little Caution needed!

 I have sat here now since Steve's Post, contemplating, Should I or NOT! Well fellow Members I have to Post this, as I feel it is important. What Steve & Jim achieved, was absolutely Brilliant, we all here, cheer them loud, I know. What is being suggested now and I applaud them Both for the Idea, is also very good and I am a believer in it, my 5.000p will come when all is sorted, along with that, already pledged. We have to now, consider the implications of our good hearts, If only, 20+ members pledge and send 5.000p, we will have someone, out there, with 100.000p+ in their House, now I dont know about you but I would not like this amount and hopefully, much more, laying around my house. So we need a Bank Account, now to have a Bank Account we need a reason for it. SOCIAL CLUB OK great, If this money is kept dormant, until spent or awarded to a cause, it will accrue interest, Now Bank Interest, has a Habit of attracting Tax Implications, so you see, before we give it away, our money has cost us as a club. So, to relieve us, of this Tax Implication, we could Register it as a Charitable Cause, OH! Well having had some dealings with Charities it is not easy, The Tax man alone, will crawl all over the place, they will enquire where the Money has come from. Anything to Disallow Charity Immunity from Tax Obligations. The Registration committee will have 1000 and 1 questions. What is the Charitable Cause you promote exactly, Who will benefit, How will you award the benefit, Criteria for Application and Awarding the benefit and so on. The Books (Ledgers) will be open to Big style auditing from both parties. As this was started here at DI (we know that the authorities read DI at times) there may be a sudden run on membership as money is involved, I am not too sure, what the thoughts of the Owners and Administrators may be, to this type of Scrutiny, Albeit this moves away from DI, you can never tell how far the Authorities will go, to ensure it is a Charitable Cause. SO! as I said, I am all for something here, I just thought I would point out that Whilst, the Idea is fantastic, we do need to Walk before we Run, Certainly not, casting Doom and Gloom but just a Little caution required, before we all start sending in our pledges. A lot of years in Auditing, has taught me that the Tax Man is eager to make enquiries and gets greedy, when a lot of people start injecting cash into a Bank Account, Like this one would Be. Sorry if it sounds a little cold but I do tend to err on the side of caution!

    Regards Jack P.

A well thought out post Jack and you bring up some good points. It is just as difficult to start a charitable organization in the U.S. To keep things simple I would think a joint bank account with ALL of the officers named on the joint account would work fine without all of the hassle. If 3-4 people all have to sign to withdraw $, instead of just 1-2, I would think that would be the way to go.

    Agreed!

KDF, That's what is needed, Thoughts, Suggestions and Positive Actions, I know it can be done, it just has to right, the last thing we need, is to be on the wrong Radar Screen. I hope others will join the cause if it is to succeed.

Jack, your points are well taken. Alternatively, perhaps we could work off of a "pledge" system. That is, those of us interested in participating make a committed pledge of X amount, without submitting funds until an agreed upon opportunity arises that our group supports. We then request necessary funds to support only that event at that time.
Further, I suggest as we go forward we have a five person board representing the membership empowered to commit funds without having to call for a vote from the full membership. The board would also keep a ledger of commitments and expenditures. We want to keep a simple easy to manage process, and as you say, avoid any tax consequences. Just my thoughts.

    Just the Job!

 Pat, I am glad now, that I made the decision to Post, At first I thought it may be seen as Scare Mongering but now I can see, it has raised some thoughts on the implications. For this to succeed, with as little fuss and problems as possible, in addition to keeping it legal, a Think Tank has to be created and I feel, that is what is about to emerge. I just hope that all areas can be covered before launching. I am sure more Ideas and suggestions will arrive on screen. DI, is a first Class Multi National & Multi Cultural Forum and I firmly believe, this can be delivered from within, as long as it is Administered correctly with no Hurt to it's owners. I could not take any large roll due to commitments But would always be here to do my bit somehow.

    At the meeting please

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves here. First, at this time there is NO group. The purpose of the Sunday meeting is to discuss the possibility of such a group. I will have a list of questions and concerns to be hashed out during this meeting. I will add the concerns stated above. If you have any other questions and concerns please E-MAIL them to me. I would not like to drag D.I. into something that they do not wish to be a part of. I also do not believe that this open form is the proper place to discuss what we need to discuss.

    Crossed wires?

 Hi jim, I think we may have some crossed wires, What was said here, is about a proposal Pat and HSM made on the walker supplied by you and SteveB and a possible follow up, if your meeting is along the same lines then I am sorry but I guess we did not realise, it was about the same issue, it was never intended to be a cross issue. Maybe this can be sorted on Sunday, You have seen no doubt, my reservations and hope, they can be useful to you. You will notice I too, have DI in my thoughts. Unfortunately I am away and can't make it but Hope you will keep me up to Speed. Have a Good day Sunday.

    My ₱2[/QUOTE]

    Hello James,

I agree with the above writing. Sorry, but can not attend Sunday 17, because we have other commitments. Have studied charity organisations and all the complications there goes with it, so research is needed and legalities must be studied and discussed. I wish you good luck with the meeting and I stand behind my original statement in this thread as far as economic participation. Go step by step and no rush! Good Luck on Sunday! Please send email about the outcome of the meeting. Thanks! DumagueteHearing@gmail.com
