    Another Casablanca Review

I went in Casablanca and was surprised to see Mexican fare on the menu. I am always a skeptic, so I proceeded with caution and ordered the chips and salsa sampler.

It was a pleasant surprise with great usage of local ingredients. The mango salsa was a treat and my favorite of the three distinct offerings.

That said, I believe that the idea of a forum is to exchange information from all sides of an issue and requesting that people do not say anything negative about a particular restaurant as not to hurt the delicate feelings of the owner is just plain asinine. I am sure the management of the forum does not want the reputation that the forum is a thinly veiled advertising tool for certain establishments.

By protecting people from negative commentary like "Leave Geunther Alone" you seem like that moron on youtube Chris Crocker and his/her/it's "Leave Britney alone" videos.

Let's be honest here... when Guenther is present at Casablanca, every plate is inspected by his discerning eye and he is personally making sure that every customer is having a positive experience. He talks to the customers to get their feedback. Things work like they are supposed to.

When he is not right there in the building, the staff does not adhere to his strict standards of quality and customer service. They seem to be confused. It is still better than most places even when it is not up to his personal standards and that is why we eat there when we choose to dine out, which is not very often. The garlic soup is my wife's favorite. sure to keep the wakwak away from your pregnant wife!

He should not be faulted as it seems to be the nature of employees everywhere and particularly here to slack off when the boss is not around.

My only other complaint about Casablanca AND all of the other restos on the blvd is the vendors coming to your table when you are clearly on private property of the restaurant and trying to sell you something. The patio area should be treated as if it has invisible walls and the guard on duty should tell the vendors to not step foot on the property.

Sure you can argue that the vendors are trying to make a living blah blah blah by selling overpriced products, but the customers are paying a premium price to have a nice meal and should be able to enjoy a nice day on the patio without vendors harassing them.

Guards will wash windows, answer phones, and fetch to keep a job here. How about asking them to do their job?

hmmm.. usually it is the OP that cries "Don't hijack the thread" and "Moderator, please close this thread because it is not on topic". I hope You asked Mayor McCheese for permission to defend the original intention of thread! If you did not seek permission, you might be accused of stealing his thread as your own or at least squatting on his thread. People take ownership of their threads seriously around here!

can't say much about the Korean place, but did a long review about Mia's on another site. If I would stay close in Sibulan, I might go there more often, a very friendly and welcoming place. for the food, well tastes are different

full version of the review here.

following the 3 summaries (copy/paste) from the Original:.

I really have some problems to judge the place in general, so I try it from different directions.

1st-summary: Many know that I moderate the forum part on Dumagueteinfo.com, so judging Mia’s Restobar, I basically found almost everything what DI-members complain about Restaurants in Dumaguete City. Very slow service (remember shakes 1hr 15 minutes), dishes are different as described in the menu, prices are in a range that it is in the upper third of this region. Would I go to Mias Restobar for having lunch or dinner? No, I don’t think so, I get the same or better stuff in Dumaguete, so no need to “travel”.

2nd-summary: It is a great place for small celebrations or going there with a bunch of friends to have some cold ones, playing pool, have a swim and a good time. Looks like a wonderful, friendly, clean place to get filled up and have fun with a couple of mates and some snacks in between. I am convinced that I will end up there once in a while with some friends for some booze.

3-rd summary: Taking the family for a nice relaxed afternoon at a great place in a lovely, tropical garden, having a decent meal some cold shakes and a great time. Mia’s is definitely a place to consider for doing exactly that. We had a great time at Mias Restobar and swimming pool that we four look forward to our next visit in Dumaguetes neighbor municipality Sibulan.

    Cheers

    Rhoody

If you like Liempo, there is a place on Perdices bewtween steads and the cockpit on the left if coming from Steads. I do not know the name of the place, but there is an enormous yellow sign in front and there are two steps down off of the curb to get in. The Liempo is the best I have had the pleasure of tasting in The Philippines... tender, juicy, and has unques spices you won't find on a Sr Pedros Liempo. Have yet to try the Lechon Manok.. maybe I will try that next time.

For you Andok's lovers out there, myself included... you can buy the Andok's sauce at Robinsons on the back wall close to the bulk rice. Makes ANY Liempo taste good!

Where did you get the idea that I do not like Casablanca?

I said the salsa sampler was a pleasant suprise, the garlic soup is great, and when Geunther is there everything is as it should be.

I did say when he is not there that it is not AS good, but it is where we eat when we go out to eat, which is not that often, which is a TRUE statement. I also said he should not be faulted for his crew slacking off when he is not there because it is very common here.

I also said that my only real complaint about his and ALL restos on the blvd is the vendor issue. While some might argue about whether butter should be included with bread, I am sure that everyone will agree that DVDs, cialis, Viagra, wooden crosses, wooden ships, watches, sunglasses, pearls and any other overpriced crap should not be included with the meal.

Joe, before calling someone a moron, show you are not one by reading all the posts on the subject, including the last one, and you will see no one is protecting Gunther.
