Blaze.......nah, it wasn't his name unless he was using a "pen name".......If a micro indeed is happening in Visaya area, I'd sure like to know..........maybe that would help me make up my mind about moving to the PI....what better excuse than to "work in a brewery"......Aloha.......

Guys I'm from Manila, and i need help.

Do you have some tips for starters? I mean, the resources? What to get, and what not to get yet may it be the equipment or the ingredients. I'm having a hard time, because if I will get "exracts" for my ingredients, what good would i be from San Miguel? Help me guys, I'm really having a lot of fun reading your post. By the way, I'm just 21, and i need help to furthermore appreciate the magnificence of beer. Thanks! Cheers!

By the way, extracts are not bad, there are a lot of good extracts to choose from. It's total control of all the steps in brewing (from grain crushing to bottling or kegging) makes a brewer a good brewer.

extracts are good but they are expensive and u don't have as much control as you do with an all grain set up.

Aloha El Gwapo...........personally I wouldn't try to tackle a commercial brewery project using extracts as your base. As noted, expensive, limits your control and generally not as good of a finished project. There are too many books available on brewing for me to try to tell you how to do it here. No way you will be able to compete with San Miguel on price...so don't even try. Find yourself a niche and service it well. On a commercial basis I'm sure you can source all your ingredients from outside of the PI. From a home brewers perspective, the small amounts of ingredients you use compared to a commercial operation is more difficult to economically locate I would expect. I've found a couple people on line that actually malt their own grain here in the PI.....I would really be curious to taste their finished products............one man's great beer is another's so so beer.......Next time I come to the PI....in 2012, I plan on doing more homework on craft brewers in the country and find out who is brewing what and where.....

wow, stayed for a year..pretty cool. You didn't get bored? Are you a Filipino citizen that doesn't need to worry about a visa? Anyway....I went to Dumaguete to scuba dive.....I enjoyed the town as a tourist but would wonder if I'd get bored as a resident...
