I bought a 3 week old min-pin with papers from a breeder in Dumaguete, one year old this month. Great size for an apartment or a house and great watch dog. If you get the one mentioned that is one year old, you avoid the early months when they bite all your furniture and yourself and are not house-broken. Plus, smaller stuff to pick up when they do their business.

Mini-Pin was on Cesear Milan's last night (Nat Geo). Wow, vicious little buggar, but Ceaser sorted him out.

Pat, really, how do you find him, he might be a good size dog for us as we live in a place with a very small yard.

Looks like they need a firm "pack Leader" to use Ceaser's take on it??

PP, d*mn, I wish I watched Dog Whisperer last night. My min-pin is a handful. He is okay with my wife and I and her sister and aunt who are our helpers and her in-laws when they come and stay with us. Anyone else that comes into my compound is at risk and I hold him until he settles down. Having said all that, he is terrific. He sleeps with us and is a joy to have. I have a walled property so he has a suitable area to run around. He was easy to house train and I walk him with a leash 3-4 times a day outside on our street to do his business. We have cows, goats, chickens, and dogs on our street and he tries to attack all of them, as well as wants to chase after bikes when they go by. He adds an extra level of security to my already secured property, those big ears are like radar. He wants lots of attention and is very demanding; he is my shadow around the house. He is very smart, knows what time to wake up and when it is time for snacks or meals. I spoil the hell out of him though. We have a baby due next month so I am unsure how he will handle the new situation, but being I won't be tied up feeding or nursing the baby and can address adaptation, I am confident he will be fine.
Bottom line, he is a great dog but needs attention. I would not leave him alone in the house, a helper is here 24/7 which brings up the point that your helper becomes a 50/50 dog yaya. You are welcome to come out and observe Apo in person, he would be glad to see you... lol.

it was an interesting show. Family of 4 and Mum babied the dog and as a result he thought he was boss. Per Caesar's usual style he worked on Mum First, setting boundaries, rules, etc

Dog also had never learned to socialize with other dogs, so he was taken back for two weeks of remedial at Caesar's compound.

Basically, Caesar put him on a treadmill and wore the little bloke out three times a day, every day and then told Mum to basically ignore him until she was ready, i.e.: don't kiss and cuddle until required dog behavior is established. Typical Caesar approach, but man, what a difference. 100% reversal, as always on the show ..

You mentioned an Aussie and I thought I had the only one in the Philippines. I got mine from a breeder on a ranch who trains field dogs for shows in Lodi, California. She was the imperfect runt so I had to promise not to breed but there are positives and negatives with these critters. I've had lots different breeds of dogs so maybe this will help if you pick an Aussie.
Positives = Brilliant, you can literally teach this dog to do anything. She will defend you and your property, is extremely agile, tough as a linebacker and never cries.
Negatives=This is a working dog who has been bred to spend all day in the hot sun, constantly on the move with an eye toward intruders. If you don't have a herd to round up or guard I suggest you spend a lot of time with a frisbee or ball both of which she can catch easily on the fly. She isn't crazy about children or strangers and has a long coat which is too heavy for the Philippines unless you buzz her often. The cowboys made a great animal but unfortunately they have become designer dogs and are being minatuerized. Aussies are definitely not house dogs and not a dog that only needs to be walked a few times a day. She wants to work. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, actually we had a Female Bluie here for over 12 years. She died last year. GREAT dog, exactly as you describe. Would have another one in a heartbeat. If you ever breed her with another breed, let me know, even some of the partial trait would be good.

I got "Pebbles" from a family in manila many years ago, because of the blood lines, she could not be bred with any more relatives, not enough fresh stock to go around here so the pups out of that litter were the last unless another male could be found, which I do not believe they ever did.

My 12 year old daughter grew up with her, and she is always asking for another one just like Pebbles.

She is 11 years old and fixed so I picked up a papered black lab from a breeder in Manila. Typical American lab, not the English version and about the size of a minivan at 6 months. Looks like a gorilla. I can give you the web site if you're interested.
