    Relax

Please read my posts and understand they were tongue in cheek. I thought the joking content may of been a clue. Im sure its the center of tourism at 2am in the morning. So much to do in this party town, so many tourists roaming around in the early hours, and at that time no way to get home apart from walking. ( hope you got my sarcasm this time ? ) It was isolated incident between locals in the very early hours. If your on the street at that time anywhere in the world your taking a gamble. Probably more so here in war torn Dumaguete than any other country ( More sarcasm for you ) Now do you understand why i made light of the post ?

    i understand now Appy.

I just don't see anything real funny about a 15, 16 and 17 year old being shot on the street very funny. I've got a great sense of humor but it's just not finding a spot on this post :-(

Apologize for not being on the same wagon...

Read the second post in this thread. It has a few eye opening articles related to the gangs in Dumaguete-

    ?

Im making light of people being worried about safety because of gangs in Dumaguete not what actually happened to the young lads. Which was the point of the thread.

Its obviously an isolated incident between local gangs so no one else has to worry. For whatever reasons these kids chose to put themselves in this situation and chose this path in life. Its a crying shame what happened to them and guidance in life is obviously missing. I just hope other people involved can learn from the pain caused and choose a new direction for themselves

Again ( and however i word it, light or serious ) the point of the thread and the point i was actually answering was IS IT SAFE. So of course its safe for anyone who is not involved in a gang or isnt stupid enough to be wandering around a city in the early hours of the morning

I just popped to the infamous gangland area of Bacong market at lunchtime with my 4 year old son. He took his toy gun and i had blue shorts on, maybe i should think and be more careful, we could of been mistaken for local crips

After this message I cant see how i can make my points any clearer but i do appologise if my messages can be misread

the poster of the second post complained that parts of his post were deleted (with explanation). Wonder what makes him think the second time it is different, well it is ... this time it was deleted by me.

posting some pictures someone found on google and up to 10 year old stuff is simply annoying and does not help any discussion.

there are simply 2 options discussing actual facts or closing the thread, so lets try to go back to the topic.....

    @AA and On my Way:

One thing about the location is, that it is the only place where one can have a cold on at 2 or 3 am. It sounds like between Zanzibar and the former sandpippper (I think "The rock bar" now). The only places you can have a drink at night. As I work at night, I don't interrupt my biorhythm and also drink and go out at night (btw, much healthier than living at day and disturbing the rhythm of ones body with occasional barhopping)

Is Dumaguete dangerous or safer, I don't know.
20 years back we had fights in my hometown (with weapons included) almost each month in front of several clubs late night. Most of them involved either a chick, or some territory issues of 2 biker gangs. I still would tell everybody Bamberg is a safe and great town.

... well of course I could search on google gather a lot of old stuff put it together with some stupid pictures in a post and say OH MY GOD

This thread is a prime example of SNAFU

I tried to edit the portions of my posts, that now make no sense after most of the second post was deleted, but realized it's impossible for me to do it.

Then I googled "bloods crips dumaguete" to find the article again, and realized it was actually a blog post from 2007. Eve opening, but hardly a trusted news source (if there even is such a thing these days)

I vote to delete the entire thread and just forget it-

Did it happen on San Jose St.? What's in that street? A lot of people had been shot there already. Years ago, (about 15 years ago?), there was this notorious character that got shot and killed by a man wearing a bandanna. Then there was this human rights activist who got shot and killed a few meters from where the first situation occurred, then on that same area, a businessman who was driving his vehicle was also shot and killed, and now the frat shootings? There are probably other similar incidents that I do not know--you better avoid walking along that area. I forgot to mention that there was another man who also got shot and killed there near the PHCCI building. Scary place.

Hi folks, on this note, would anyone in the knowing indicate the "safest" areas where to live in Dumaguete, not including compounds with security at the entrance gate?

    Considering the widespread poverty...
and having somewhat ineffective law enforcement....
It is an absolute MIRACLE that there isn't way more crime directed at foreigners here.
And it says quite a bit for the character of Philippino people in general and their society in whole.
Pinoy are pretty much self policing and law abiding folks.

If this place scares you, than why did you move here?

Union Jack, good question and hopefully you will get some sound advice. Another way to answer this is where not to live. I will contribute Mangnao - Santo Nino Rd area as a place not to go. Drug dealings near and losers hanging out at the beach.

I moved to another area where everyone near is related to either the mayor of our town or the barangay captain and they keep an eye out for outsiders. Good to have a dog.
