There are studies that suggest it's good to donate blood as often as you can.

One study supports the "iron hypothesis" which suggests that women are protected from atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, because they have lower body stores of iron than men. Through menstrual blood loss, women have one-half the iron stores and suffer about one-half the heart attacks and deaths from heart disease as men of similar age.

"What this means for men is - if you donate blood, in a sense you can become a virtual woman and protect yourself from heart disease," said Meyers. "We have identified another reason for blood donation, beyond altruism, for men."

There's lots of info on the internet about it. Check it out.

    Great news!

So the intestinal bleeding that comes with heavy Tanduay drinking is not as bad for ones health as one would think.

I am constantly cutting my wrists in frustration, so I guess I will live forever .. (or at least will not die of a Heart Attack)

I use to donate blood every 6 months in Houston for 2 reasons. First, it may save somebodys life. Second, because at every blood drive KLOL rock radio would give out one of a kind black t-shirts with a different logo for each blood drive.

It's a good thing to do and if it also helps us, then this is all good.

A few additional personal thoughts to reduce the risks even more.
    1. Don't get married.
    2. Don't have children.
    3. Don't get divorced.
    4. Don't move to a foreign country to live.
    5. Don't get remarried.

    Any others?????

Just curious....do they have blood donation drives here?

I saw a blood drive van in Toledo, Cebu years back.

I can always use a couple O pos donors btw, but whatever your blood type, it serves a double benefit to donate.

My Dr at SUMC concurred that there be something to the "donate and reduce your risk" theory recently

Interesting theory..coz pre-menopausal women are not as prone to heart disease as men.

Every person should donate blood after passing a period then our body perform beat action and never chemicals effect on any daises so always be ready for serve.

Say what? Your posts today require an IBM Deep Blue computer to analyze and understand. I can't quite match the donate blood reference to chemicals effect on daisies, and ready for serve almost tied the whole thing together for me, almost but not quite. I will bring this to our next N.O. Mensa Society meeting and get back to you.

There are times when I wish I could speak a second language, then maybe I could be critical of others.
Then again it's not in my nature to be that way. Humtee keep on posting and welcome to the forum......JB
