    Hello everyone!
I am just curious. I am not into computers but I plan to have one when the time comes. And I would like to have your opinion on which is best. All I know is that a laptop is handy. They say desktop is better. Is there anybody here who knows more about computers?
    Thanks

Without saying which is better since that is really something that is subjective and maybe should be based on your requirements, what I can tell you is that PC's or workstations are usually easier to repair and upgrade. They are eaiser to repair because you can often easily replace many of the individual components should they fail. The reason notebooks are not easy to upgrade is because the major components are built into the motherboard and have to be, that is what makes them compact. So if some component on the notebook motherboard fails the whole motherboard needs to be replaced. Now if the notebook is under warranty and the part fails there are many technicians that can replace the motherboard but be warned that if the failure is due to electrical problems most companies do not include brownouts and such in the warranties and are not required to replace the parts if they suspect a power surge was the cause.

So, do you need a computer that is easy to repair and upgrade or is portability what you need most in a computer?

In my opinion, a laptop is best. You can now buy one without too high of an expense, even an Apple IPad will work.

for playing little games, yahoo chat and posting pictures on social websites, a laptop is enough ... If your plan is to use the technology for feeding your family and send your kids to school, you should go for a PC with 1 or two big screens to work.

Laptops these days are just as powerful as desktops. The use a lot less energy and still work during brownouts. If you were going to own only one computer, go with a laptop. The downside is they are more expensive, easily stolen, and harder to repair.

Laptop...decent one with a video driver that will handle a good monitor with 1920 X 1080...get a 24-25" LCD/LED and a full-size keyboard and mouse....all reasonably priced...You have something as good as a desktop and during brownouts etc revert to the laptop screen....very easy and only costs about $400 here - so might be cheaper there. .That's what we do at work...pick up the laptop for teaching down the hall - or halfway around the world...

well, it really depends on how will you use it.

    Laptop
PROS: lightweight and compact, very low energy consumption. take it and get connected anywhere you go. play games. do your documents. work on some online stuffs. surf surf and surf.
CONS: sensitive, not so flexible (when it comes to upgrades), and an apple for the eye (of thieves)

    Desktop
PROS: maximum computing power, highly flexible, surf chat and everything , 3D gaming, work on all types of projects.
CONS: can gladly stay at home, very high energy consumption up to 1000w, heavy of course
