I've been looking to purchase a pistol for home protection. I have found a person that has one for sale. He claims to be an xPNP officers who is leaving for another country (for disclosed reasons) in a few months. I was introduced to him by a trusted Filipino friend, whom i have known for a good while and have had positive interactions/transactions with in the past, who vouches for him. (I know that might mean Jack sheet in this situation though.) No problems so far, I have personally seen the firearm and know it is in proper working condition. I can buy it tomorrow no questions asked. However, he is also claiming that he can get it registered AND get a carry permit for me, under MY name, not a gf's name, not a wife's name, my name. This, of course, comes at a price (P13k). Now, I am absolutely positive that 13k will get it registered and get me a carry permit, which I want and would pay for. I'm also positive that a false birth certificate can be printed up to go along with it, which I absolutely do NOT want. If I get it registered I want it to be completely legal and legit, which I thought was not possible in this country for foreigners. If it can't be done in legit fashion then I will just pursue other means of obtaining "protection". I have read other threads on this topic dated a couple years ago. I am thinking the laws have not changed. BTW: I really do not want this to be a debate on the ethics of gun ownership or the penalties for shooting a local in self defense (blood money, hospital bills, fines/jail time). I just want the facts on the registration/permit laws.
btw I ask this because in my research I ran across this: That last paragraph seems to be a possible loophole. The gentleman who claims to be able to get the registration completed says it will be signed by a high ranking, supposedly, "competent" authority. However, one thing I have learned in this country is to take no one's word for anything.
I had a contact high up in the PNP in Manila who I bought my firearm from. I was not able, according to law, to register it in my name, had to be in my wife's name. Unless you are a diplomat or one of the others mentioned in the paragraph you posted, you may be getting scammed.
Unless your planing on carrying it with you I would suggest a shotgun for home protection. nothing says go away better than the sound of a round being jacked in the chamber
If you would like, I can introduce you to the PNP officer that processes all firearm permits. That way you will get the straight scoop from the man in charge. PM if you want. Ron
Mistake # 1) Believing a cop in Philippines, ('ex' or otherwise), especially pertaining to anything concerning firearms.
We have one of the duma swat team process our licences,he is a good guy and trustworthy, and any time we want to shoot at sibulan we just call him up and he will sort it,not the chinese owned range but in a quarry near. We have had a few good sunday mornings down there with a few of the local cops etc and if we ever want the use of an M16 or M4 he will sort,we just got to buy the ammo and bung him a few peso!!!!
Is the license in your name? I do not believe a foreigner can get an authentic firearm license in his name.
