Hi I will be in Dumaguete some time soon. Was wondering if anyone had any advice for the best wireless USB modem available in this city. From what I understand Smart,Globe and PLDT are the biggest players in the game. Am looking to buy a USB stick to access internet if the hotel I am staying in runs into any issues. I have stayed in Dumaguete and the wifi in some hotels is very slow indeed. I think Harolds Mansion was the best. Any ides on areas which might pick up a stronger signal appreciated ...also tips on internet cafes with a good connection that allow you to use your laptop would be great as well.
Best Wireless USB Modem? i can't help you with a usb modem recommendation but i stayed at the Check Inn several times and always had decent connection via *cable* in the room. http://checkinn.com.ph/about2.php norm : ))~
PH USB Modems: Smart and PLDT roam is good GLOBE. They got 1Gig limit download access for a day ( with their Fair use policy). Don't be deceive with their commercial it's unlimited Affordable one is SUN, they got this 100php for 3 days 24 hr activation. But all in all, it depends on the area where you are staying , signals varies with the cellsite location and the number of users as well as the usb stick 3g/HSDPA/and or HSPA signals capable.
Great thanks for this advice. Just what I was after. I had read some good reports on this forum about PLDT so I might give them ago. Download limit isn't so much an issue as speed. I am willing to pay a little more as long as it is quick. Any tips on what USB stick gets a good connection and where? These kind of facts must be hard to ascertain I am sure but any personal experiences would be great to hear. I found an advert that says you can unlock a USB device to work on any network which I guess is a way one could test out a few different conditions. And there are aerials you can attach to a USB device which adds a little more in the way of signal strength. Also in relation to Check Inn I stayed there last year for this very reason and unfortunately it was very slow for me. Must have been a bad day.
It depends where you and where you will try accessing from. I used both the SmartBro and the Globe Tattoo from my house in Bacong before I could get a wifi from Globe. I could get a signal from SmarBro but not from Globe Tattoo from my house. At Robinson's Mall I could not use my Globe Tattoo; however, Globe now has a store opened at the mall so perhaps there is a router there you can access.
Globe Tattoo in the vicinity of Brgy 7/ Taclobo (police station, perpetual help church, west central school, land bank, Polaris, foundation u) gets 3.1 Mbps during mornings and late nights, 1 Mbps plus during peak hours.
I never drove around trying to find a place to get my Tattoo to work...I wanted it to work while at my house, I guess you are lucky if you live in an area where it works. I figured if I was going to have to drive around I might as well go to an internet cafe, so I did that for awhile.
permes... just curious, did you have a signal at home and tattoo still wouldn't work? does globe cell work at your home? norm : ))~
We have Globe cell phones and they work fine.....the Tattoo just never worked. I thought that was strange, too.
