I stopped in at a tire store just north of St Paul Univ name Fox Hounds or something like that to check on knobby tire prices. The guy studies the price list for what seems too long a time, and then says, "p2350 for the front tire"!

I suggested that was the usual price for front AND back tires. He just stood there with a smirk.

A front knobby tire should be p1000 or less!

    Take your business elsewhere!

Depends surely on what size of tyre, for what bike and who's the manufacturer of said tyre, e.g. cheap Chinese made tyres, are much less expensive than Pirrellis/Metzlers/Michelins/Continentals/Bridgestones etc etc. As is usually the case with such products sold over here, you get what you pay for, especially for tyres.
It reminds me of the old Bell helmet advertisement back in the late '80's, "If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet." In the case of tyres, I also believe the same sort of principle applies.

I've been pricing tires in town and know what the typical prices are. It was an obvious attempt to gouge.

The guy that gave me the inflated price thought it was amusing..

There was an woman in her 50s maybe sitting in the side doorway whom I took to be the owner. She didn't bat an eye.

I agree with KTM that the price of a tyre highly depends on the brand i.c. good quality or cheap rubbish. Anyway it's always good to get informed properly and by window shopping you'll find out soon and able to distinguish the shops that quote a fair price or a rip off price.

No, its named Fox Hounds or Fox n Hounds as I said in the OP.

Yes, different brands made in China, Thailand, Philippines etc might be different prices. We got it.

I always ask when shopping where the tire is made

AND never miss to see the date to the side wall of each tire ! Many shops sell 2 and 3 years old instead
of several months within the same year...

Speaking of tires I have a Suzuki heyate which evidently has an off size tire. Tubes are very hard to find and if u have a blowout or split tube its very unlikely a vulcanizing place will have a spare so it best to carry spares with you.
I recently bought tubeless tires and 2 cans of fix a flat hopping this will be a better solution.
