Recently I dropped my portable Hard drive. Does anyone have experience with recovering data on a crashed hard drive? It is a western digital hard drive, orginally purchased in the US at Costco.

You may have crashed the heads so it may be difficult to retrieve data without removing the internals and reinstalling in another body. Only a specialist recovery centre has the equipment to do this.

You can try however try cracking the case open and carefully pry the black casing apart with a flat blade screwdriver. You will find the drive which resembles a normal laptop drive. Remove this and connect to a SATA connector cable from a PC or stick in a USB enclosure as you may have just damaged electronics on the board only. See if this works otherwise it has been damaged from the "fall" or drop.

    Good luck!
