Nestle imported cottage cheese in the 4 ounce container at Hypermart and robinsons for 95Pesos. While not real good, it's the only cottage cheese I've found. Sour cream....i mean runny milk....is a whole 'nother issue :-(
Ditto what OnMyWay says!! The only cottage I have seen, also..and what is up with the runny sour cream? I want a "Dollop of Daisy" and you sure can't dollop what they have here!!
Just found some recipes to make cottage cheese....guess what I am going to make this weekend??!! And the milkman just delivered my milk!!
I have been making my own ricotta for over a year and didn't realize to make cottage cheese is exactly the same, except you add cream to the curds. And, I don't have cheese cloth, I just use those very thin, cheap towels (I think they are called "morning" towels), they work quite well!! I would LOVE to try to make harder cheeses, but you have to have the rennet for that and not quite sure if that is available here.
Yes, the sour cream here is very, very thin. I just searched online and found an incredibly simple recipe for homemade sour cream: Print Homemade Sour Cream Recipe - Food.com - 70786 The next question, however, is if there is buttermilk here in Dumaguete? If so, I'm going to give this recipe a try (the reviews were all extremely positive). Sue
I found on-line sources for rennet in Manila, looks easy. Also I went to the department of Agriculture and they said they will be making cottage cheese starting next month. Ron
You can buy buttermilk powder at Yan Yan's. I tried to make my own sour cream a few months back....it was a complete flop. Need to try it again.
