We will come in on the Aussie 21 day free visas and then apply for longer visas. Do we need to have flights booked to leave the country within those 21days? We are planning to stay 12 months so would tickets out of the country booked for 12mnths be ok? I am a little confused. If you have to book tickets out (within the 21 days or 59 days) where is the cheapest international city? How do people handle the whole 59 day thing? Cheers Geraldine
For Philippine immigration everyone entering the country needs a return- or onward ticket. Airlines are more strict on this rule than immigration. When entering the country with a 59 day visa, a return ticket after one year is ok. Without visa (21 days upon arrival)the airline might refuse you boarding your flight,so check this with your airline in advance. As an alternative you may buy a "throw away ticket"with departure within the 21 days after arrival/ The cheapest tickets are to nearby destinations like Kota Kinabalu,Hong Kong,Macau or Singapore with a low cost airline. Just search Cebu Pacific,Philair express,Tiger air,Air Asia or Jetstar airways. Or use a combination search engine like:Low Cost Airlines
Firefly is spot on. You will need a return or ongoing ticket. Most do this through a throw away cheap ticket which is generally non refundable. The reason immigration isn't as hard on it as the airlines is immigration has made airlines responsible. If an airline allows a person to board without a return ticket or ongoing and said person is required to leave for whatever reason that airline is responsible for returning you to said origin (least from the legal standpoint, how it works in actuallity who knows).
its ok if you can show any return ticket upon arrival here, a return ticket after one year is also ok. re. handling the 59 day visa thing, just visit the bureau of immigration in dumaguete, they'll extend your tourist visa up to 1 year, could be even 18 months, but I'm not sure.
