Hey Dumaguete experts! If you were planning on diving in Apo Is, would you prefer to stay in the island or not? In case I choose to stay in one of those resorts close to Apo which would you recommend? One with a good house reef would be nice. Final question, I have a night in Dumaguete before I get back to Monster City. Where should a girl hang around for a few drinks and where is the closest guesthouse to it in case I need to crawl back (yeah right coz a few drinks will do that)? I believe that would be on a Sunday so any place with some band playing would be a bonus. Salamat
Well, I would not stay on Apo, but others like it a lot. I prefer a place with more than 4 hours electricity, but that is me. I would use a resort in Dauin and go for an Apo Trip w/ 3 dives. the operator leave around 8 and are back around 4. In Dauin are many resorts with a nice house-reef, or beach dives in a few minutes distance. It basically comes down to your budget. You can have a room at Mikes Beach resort for 2000 or one at other places for 5000 and higher. There is also some cheap accommodation around too, but I assume you prefer a resort w/ diveshop. Girls who wanna hang around for a few drinks should of course hang around with me... hehehe Live-Bands on Sunday will be hard to find, a couple of folk guys playing in different location and everything is relatively close to Dumaguete but depending on the amount of alcohol, it could become a looooong crawling distance
Thanks! Yep the early lights off is not gonna work for an insomniac like me. The Mike's Beach Resort you're talking about, would this be the one: http://mikes-beachresort.com/ ? As for the few beers and crawling thing, just point me where the cold beer is
Is Dauin near APO island ? What is the best and yeat cheacp resort you can recommend in terms of photography eye candy ?
no...Dauin is about 20 miles........30km from Apo.....but some of that on land, some over the ocean...........
Yes that's it, real good place, well-run by nice people, sandy beach, hammocks, great location near the Dauin Sanctuary Reef (walking-distance, for snorkelers). Apo Island can be seen from there, and all resorts on that strip have boats that offer dive-trips to Apo (short enuff ride) as well as their reef. Just fine for photographers, i'd think; great views up-and-down the curving beach. I'm taking a guest-friend there to dive next week...
My asawa and some family members and myself visited Mikes' a few weeks back. We were in town for a funeral. Although I don't dive.....well let me think about that.....hehehehe. Mike's was great for our afternoon visit, very friendly staff, great food and nice pool and beach. Our visit was shortly after Sendong Storm and the approach road was a mess, but worth the bumpy road ride.
when going to Mike's beach resort, use the first road to the left when getting to Dauin, where the El Dorado and Pura Vida sign-boards are. Turn right at the end of the paved road and after about 200 meters left to Mikes. The other road, where his sign-board is on the main-street is a mess since ever.
