    JoaPaul,

I'm curious as to where you got that quote (90k RMB = $14,300 USD) for CS in China & if you can be specific as to which so called western health hospitals (name and city would be helpful) that offers similar horrible services you & your wife had received at HC.

    Thanks.

    My conclusion:

the majority of for ex car mechanics are poor in competence and service, trustworthyness; the majority of dentists are equally bad, the majority of beauticians and pedicure staff the same, same with massage therapist, electrician, gardener, maid, same with office staff, and any women/girlfriend etc. Probably also doctors.

The point is, do your quality check first, due diligence.

If you do, at least I have found very good car mechanics here in Bacolod, very good doctors, dentist, massage therapists, and so forth. But I did not chose any one by chance. Always get referrals, from people with experience or knowledge of international quality level, and do your own search.

For ex I know a lot about dental services. First i got 4 recommendations of dentists. then I met them, asked about their education, their equipment, and how they would treat a certain dental problem and why. Only then did I chose the one and i have been happy all the time.

As to giving birth basically the same. And we wnt to a ob dr basically monthly since the start of pregnancy. However, it was only until 1 week before delivery we found out that they are not allowing husband or any relatives to be present. The excuse was about equipment, too small area, lack of privacy. We dont belive in that at all.

I am 90 % sure the reason is they dont want any witness if anything goes wrong, for the child or the mother, as it sometimes does in any part of the world, just more here. They dont want litigation and court cases.

Final note on doctors, and that is applicable also for hospitals any country. You need to do your reserach about your symptoms as well. I know many people in europe that got mis-diagnosed by their doctor, making the problem worse, and treatment more difficult.

Upon reading tru it, Siliman Univ. Med. Hosp. is way better than so called Holychild Hosp. in terms of Child Labor Service they even encourage mothers to do breast feeding after giving birth. The staff are approachable and the doctor and nurses are very informative with the situation and even encourage to take pictures with the new born baby. But I always wish there's a hospital on this city like Manila top hospitals. I miss the centralize aircondition on the waiting room. It's very important to get a good Doctor look for CIM Cebu Institute of Medicine ( Velez College) graduate or UST University of Sto Tomas and UP University of the Philippines .You'll be lucky enough to find if the Doctor took his studies abroad.

or professional at least when it comes to corruption they are a great team there :(
... for Child Labor Service ... I saw mother and kid dying at SU and doctors and nurses were just running around like Chicken without head, no defibrillator, etc. available in the hospital. On other occasion I witnessed with other DI Members the corruption going on there between doctors, nurses, securities and blood-donors.

Most doctors have clinics in both anyway and breastfeeding is also emphasized in both. It comes down to the right doctor and the correct actions from the day the pregnancy is known.

I had first-hand experience with government hospitals in this locality and I totally agree with everything said here about these hospitals, private or government-run. I am so sorry about this poor state of some of our hospitals here and the lack of professionalism in some of our medical practitioners. As I have said earlier, I had my own childbirth horrors.

I heard from friends who have given birth in a expensive Chinese/Western Hospital in Shanghai that they had noisy construction going on in their so called private room why trying to recover from birth the day before. The sensitivity for privacy seems to be in Asia not far developed. Sorry, I cannot give you specific names and I did not get a quote for a CS in China. I recommend going to Europe when it comes to surgery if you can foresee it and finance it. But also for instance in Germany, where I am from, you should be as well informed as the doctors when it comes to serious decisions.

This doctors are all justhuman beings and no gods. What I don't understand here in Dumaguete why they thread their own women without any respect. Is it just about that nurses and other staff are not well payed? Is it all about money? In former times people in health sector were supposed to be professionals means have chosen their profession because of the content i.e. here to serve human beings. I Germany we have still something like the hippocratic oath. A doctor should serve you when you in need is my humble understanding of this code. Of course also in Germany there is nowadays a two class system where you will be get better (often life saving like in cancer) service when you are private insured. Here in Asia they let you die without any thought when you cannot pay them in advance. I heard from a woman from Siquijor who was having a ultra sound monitoring in the center of my wife's doctor. The ultra sound showed that her child was dead. A normal though would have been in my (naive) opinion to remove that body of the child immediately. But of course she had first to gather the cash before any member of the asian hippocratic oath would give a sh*t about her wellbeing. Pardon my French and correct me if I am wrong!

In this discussion is a lot to say and I am happy that many are responding. I was posting our experience to warn about the circumstances in this specific hospital but I was aware that others are not better. But I will try Siliman medical when in need of medical service. Holy Child was the choice of my wife because her lady doctor (who runs by the way the only ultra sound center in DG) was having her practice there. Unfortunately that did not assure any better service for her client.

Not to defend anyone, but it is a third world nation. What more do you expect?

We do have to understand, if patients were not required to pay in advance, the hospital or private clinics would hardly get paid anything at all -- "billing" people afterwards does not work here -- and they'd just go broke on humanitarian service to the poor. Altho for the Filipino middle-class such concepts are growing. This is what Francis Fukayama depicted as a "Low-Trust Society", and that makes so many things dysfunctional... South Korea graduated from low to High in 50 years... have hope for this place. What's needed right now is lots more govmt support for medical services!!

In that same 50 years, the Philippines went from being one of the most promising countries in Asia to very close to the bottom.

It doesn't appear to be coming back to the top anytime soon.

That something sounds logic makes it not right at the same time. It sounds fine to throw words around like low trust and whatever society to put people in a category to threat them then as objects of a discussion. So you can easily forget that you are speaking about human beings. Your are of course right that humanitarian thoughts are totally out of vogue in our greedy world. It might be that some cannot afford the treatment they need but think about yourself that maybe you could also be in a situation like this and someone would put you in the category of a low trust person. How would that feel>
