While walking on The Boulevard and enjoying the sunset, the Princess noticed a Filipino couple with 2 puppies. We stopped and had a talk and they were selling the puppies. The conversation came around to other dogs they also sell that are trained for dog fights. Does anyone here know where these dog fights are held at? I think it's a disgusting act done by a group of poor and uneducated cowards that get their kicks on cruelty. Cheers for any leads, Mark
Just like the cockfighting everywhere. Its a national past-time and very sick. I find it horrible and would rather take the owners and make them fight to the death. Remnants of the things the spanish left behind.
I have never seen or heard of it here, and I would be disgusted at even the thought. So I just asked a good Pinoy friend, and he said no not here, but sometimes in Pamgganga Luzon. (not sure of spelling) Ron
I lived in Pampanga for 4 years before moving here to dumaguete and while I do know some people eat dogs, i never seen nor heard of them fighting dogs.
I know 2 organizations where they can rescue these dogs: (IRO) Island Rescue Organization and PAWS. They have facebook pages as well. 80 pitbulls were already rescued from a Korean group who organised these fights in Manila. Unfortunately, a lot of my folks still have a lot to learn when it comes to these things. :(
OMW... I have been hear for 13 years...no dog fighting that I know of (thank someone !) but ,they do eat occasionally...One of the first meals I had ,at Apo was dog...but I did not know untill after..( I thought it was goat-canding) I wish that they (Dumaguete officials) would do something about the wild, feral dogs...8 years ago,in Dauin they were pushing for shot and collars for all dogs...wala either they were culled...But ,I guess it was too much $ so no more.too bad.. I love Dogs and Cats...Miguel
There's no such thing as Dog Fighting nor Dog Pit in Dumaguete. In fact, if there will be, it will not be tolerated by the local government and will be seized right away by the local Police. It does not match to the culture of the city of gentle people. There may be times when the Dog Pound would shoot stray dogs that are roaming around the city streets, but rest assured they are disposed accordingly to prevent motorists from accidents.
You think that's bad...wait until June or July in Pamplona or Tanjay....they have their fiesta then and have horse fights....
Someone needs to look into stopping the municipal sanctioning of the horse fights. They're obscenely brutal!
